Subject Matter Expert, Generalist



Summary Description

The Subject Matter Expert for ELA/Social Studies applies content knowledge and instructional design principles to create and edit digital and print instructional materials across products and grade levels. This position also provides support for reviewing and resolving curriculum-specific client issues.


Essential Job Functions

  • Provide content and standards expertise in creating and editing effective instructional/assessment materials.
  • Analyze standards and other curriculum requirements to develop blueprints, scope and sequences, and other project content-planning documents.
  • Write and edit educational materials (lessons, activities, assignments, assessment items, etc.) for assigned products and content areas.
  • Follow guidance to implement and ensure consistent application of instructional design and guidelines.
  • Create quality instructional components of print and digital products.
  • Communicate and collaborate within and across functional teams, as well as with vendors and independent contractors, to manage development efforts effectively.
  • Set priorities to meet deadlines for requested tasks and actively communicate the status with the project lead.
  • Update and revise existing content development documentation (process documents, guidelines, etc.).
  • Conduct content-related research as directed.
  • Utilize a variety of software and tools to complete job duties.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert as needed for support tickets.

Interact with internal teams to resolve issues.

  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or in a ELA or Social Studies area such as ELA/ History, Geography, Social Sciences, Anthropology, etc.
  • Teaching experience or curriculum development experience preferred.
  • Impeccable writing and proofreading skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Superior written/oral communication skills; an ability to present his/her views in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other productivity tools (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to complete simple and complex projects, prioritize multiple deliverables, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and flexible while managing shifting internal expectations.
