Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead to drive the migration of our existing Apache Airflow workflows to Google Cloud Composer. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in workflow orchestration, cloud-native architectures, and migration strategy, while leading a team of engineers to ensure smooth delivery with minimal disruption to business operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end migration strategy from on-prem/self-managed Airflow to Google Cloud Composer.
  • Assess existing Airflow DAGs, operators, plugins, and dependencies, and define a scalable migration roadmap.
  • Collaborate with architects, DevOps, and data engineering teams to ensure best practices for cloud orchestration.
  • Optimize DAGs for performance, cost, and reliability in Composer.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for DAG deployment, testing, and versioning.
  • Define governance, monitoring, and alerting standards for Composer environments.
  • Mentor and guide a team of engineers; perform code reviews and technical oversight.
  • Ensure data security, compliance, and reliability during and after migration.
  • Identify risks, propose mitigation plans, and handle stakeholder communications effectively.


Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years in software/data engineering with at least 3+ years of Airflow orchestration experience.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Apache Airflow internals (schedulers, executors, operators, hooks, sensors, plugins).
  • Proven expertise in Google Cloud Composer (GCP managed Airflow) setup, scaling, and optimization.
  • Proficiency in Python (for DAGs, operators, hooks) and SQL.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native services in GCP (BigQuery, GCS, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, IAM, Monitoring).
  • Experience with migration projects, including dependency analysis, refactoring DAGs, and resolving environment differences.
  • Strong background in CI/CD, GitOps, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/Cloud Deployment Manager).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
