Civil Design Engineer – Pumped Storage Project

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Civil Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design of pumped storage projects. As a Civil Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing key civil infrastructure components for pumped storage systems, including reservoirs, dams, penstocks, powerhouses, and associated civil works. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to create sustainable and efficient energy storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Civil Design & Engineering:
- Lead the design of civil structures for pumped storage projects, including dams, reservoirs, penstocks, tunnels, spillways, and powerhouses.
- Develop and prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Conduct site assessments, geotechnical investigations, and hydrological studies to inform civil designs and ensure their feasibility and sustainability.
- Perform structural analysis for the design of critical components, ensuring they meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams:
- Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and environmental engineers to integrate civil designs with other components of the pumped storage system.
- Coordinate with external contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality of civil works.
- Assist the project management team in the planning, scheduling, and coordination of civil engineering tasks.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all local, regional, and national codes, regulations, and standards related to civil engineering design for energy infrastructure.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards related to civil works and develop mitigation strategies to address these risks.
- Prioritize safety in design, ensuring that all structures are resilient and sustainable over the long term.
Construction Support:
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing any design-related issues or challenges.
- Review and approve contractor submissions, shop drawings, and methods of construction.
- Visit project sites regularly to inspect progress, ensure design implementation, and address site-specific challenges.
Innovation & Optimization:
- Explore and implement cost-effective, sustainable design solutions that optimize the efficiency of pumped storage systems.
- Stay updated on advancements in civil engineering practices and energy storage technologies and apply best practices to current projects.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed design reports and progress updates for internal teams and stakeholders.
- Maintain a well-organized record of all design calculations, drawings, and modifications throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in civil design, with a focus on large infrastructure projects, preferably within the energy sector.
- Experience with pumped storage hydroelectric projects or hydropower infrastructure is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the integration of energy storage systems with renewable power projects (e.g., solar, wind) is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in civil design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or similar.
- Strong understanding of structural analysis, soil mechanics, foundation design, and hydraulic systems.
- Familiarity with geotechnical design principles and their application to energy infrastructure projects.
- Experience with structural analysis tools (e.g., STAAD Pro, SAP2000) is a plus.

- Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to design, ensuring all civil works meet technical specifications, safety standards, and quality controls.
- Adaptability & Initiative: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, take initiative, and adapt to evolving project requirements.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Occasional travel to project sites for site assessments, inspections, and construction support.
