Company Profile

Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI), headquartered in Bengaluru, India, was founded in 1996 as a captive unit to support Mercedes-Benz groups Research & Development and IT. We started with a focus on topics ranging from CAD, CAE and IT programming for all of the group’s business units. Meanwhile, we have moved up in value to cater to advanced topics in vehicle engineering and IT technologies. We are now responsible for new methods in Design and CAE, software content for control units, head units and various critical engineering tools. Important components of digital dependencies on overall product development, is located now at MBRDI. The satellite office in Pune specializes in interior & exterior component design, wiring harness, IT for Sales. The establishment of MBRDI is in line with the Mercedes - Benz group’s ambition to attract the world’s best engineering talent and form a global footprint for its R&D and IT competencies. MBRDI also aims to partner closely with suppliers in India for its activities in product development and IT services. We are now one of the largest developments centers outside of Germany, employing over 8000 skilled engineers aside from being an integral part of all business units and brands of Mercedes-Benz worldwide.

Business Context and Purpose of the Role

We are in search of a seasoned and accomplished Senior Facilities Lead with over 15 years of experience to lead the strategic planning and operational execution of facilities across our locations for our Research and Development (R&D) center. This pivotal role requires a candidate with a proven track record in managing complex facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and fostering an environment conducive to cutting-edge automotive research.


Educational Qualification and Professional Experience

An ideal candidate should hold:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Master's degree is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record with over 15 years of progressive experience in facilities management, preferably in multi-location and automotive R&D environments.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Deep knowledge of health and safety regulations, environmental sustainability practices, and emergency response protocols.
  • Strong financial acumen, negotiation skills, and budget management experience.
  • Innovative problem-solving ability and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with cutting-edge technologies and trends in automotive R&D facilities.
  • Seasoned people manager who can inspire the team and build a culture of high performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, and a preparedness to take on what is necessary to get things done.
  • Pioneer in Digital transformation of facilities
  • Familiarity with legal requirements and compliance in facilities management

Objectives of the job

  • A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of the vendor management/resource management area.
  • Becoming the trusted business partner with business and other stakeholders, identify and recommend the right models of engagement in deploying right resources for the job.
  • Bring cost and efficiency language in identifying different options of engagement.
  • Design and incorporate key Governance mechanisms to track, report and strategize vendor performance
  • Focus on operational excellence to ensure policies, methods and compliances are working in tandem

Responsibilities

Facilities Management:

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure the optimal performance of all facilities and equipment.
  • Oversee all aspects of facility maintenance, including repairs, renovations, and upgrades.
  • Manage utility consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Lead and manage capital improvement projects within budget and on schedule.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for facility optimization and cost reduction.
  • Collaborate with other departments on projects that impact the facilities, such as laboratory expansions or equipment installations.

Multi-Location Oversight:

  • Take charge of facilities management across multiple locations, ensuring consistency in standards and operational excellence.
  • Work closely with teams and site managers to address location-specific needs, challenges, and opportunities.

Leadership and Management:

  • Develop and implement a visionary facilities strategy aligned with the long-term objectives of the automotive R&D center
  • Collaborate closely with executive leadership to integrate facilities planning into the broader organizational strategy.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the facilities team across all R&D Center locations.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing team of facilities professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative and safety-conscious work environment.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and hold team members accountable for their performance.

Space Optimization and Planning:

  • Oversee the optimization of office, laboratory, and testing spaces, adapting to the dynamic needs of automotive R&D projects.
  • Implement sophisticated space planning initiatives to enhance collaboration and innovation.

Financial Stewardship:

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive facilities budget, demonstrating a keen ability to balance cost-effectiveness with operational quality.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and implement strategies to optimize operational expenses.

Vendor Relations:

  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with vendors and service providers to ensure seamless delivery of facilities-related services.
  • Negotiate complex contracts, manage vendor relationships, and monitor service quality.

Legal Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Ensure all facilities comply with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay abreast of changes in laws and regulations affecting facilities management and implement necessary adjustments.

Sustainability Initiatives:

  • Drive initiatives promoting environmental sustainability within facility operations.
  • Identify and implement energy-efficient practices, waste reduction strategies, and other eco-friendly measures.

Environment, Health & Safety:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive emergency response plans for facilities, ensuring the safety of all occupants.
  • Conduct regular drills and training sessions to enhance preparedness. (from policy) protection of envir, wellbeing of employees and safety of employees
