Senior Internationalization LeaderContract: 12 months (with potential extension based on performance)Client: A leading multinational telecommunications company (name disclosed at interview)Overview:As the Senior Internationalization Leader, you will drive Client's i18n strategy, ensuring products are built for global readiness from day one. You will shape standards, guide engineering teams, and embed scalable internationalization practices across all product lines.Responsibilities:Lead the internationalization strategy across multiple product lines and platforms.Define, implement, and enforce i18n best practices throughout the development lifecycle.Partner closely with engineering teams to identify and resolve i18n issues early.Conduct code reviews, architectural evaluations, and readiness assessments for global compatibility.Mentor engineering, localization, and cross-functional teams on i18n concepts, tooling, and workflows.Champion continuous improvement of i18n processes, tooling, automation, and global readiness frameworks.Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; Master's preferred.5+ years of experience in Android development.Strong programming skills (Java, Kotlin, or similar).Unicode/CLDR, ICU libraries, font, locale, bi-directional writing system, complex scripts, text formatting rules, resource externalization.Solid problem-solving skills and ability to work across multiple teams and systems.Proven expertise leading internationalization efforts across multiple products or large-scale platforms.Strong technical proficiency with i18n concepts, tools, and languages (e.g., Unicode, ICU, Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar).Demonstrated ability to guide, mentor, and upskill engineering and localization teams on i18n best practices.Effective communicator able to clearly convey global readiness requirements across engineering, product, and UX teams.Experience resolving complex i18n issues early in development through architecture reviews or code-level interventions.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to influence technical direction without direct authority.Tech Stack:Languages/Frameworks: Java, Kotlin, Dart, Python, JavaScript, C++, or comparable languages.Tools: Android Studio, VS .Net, Git, CI/CD pipelines, internal i18n automation frameworks, static analysis tools.Core Concepts: Unicode/CLDR, ICU libraries, font, locale, bi-directional writing system, complex scripts, text formatting rules, resource externalization.Standards and encodings: Unicode, MIME, HTTPFile Types: Common localization formats (XML, JSON, XLIFF, HTML, etc.).Practices: Pseudo localization, automated i18n testing, globalization QA workflows..
