Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesA z/OS Systems Programmer is required to lead technical initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams.Key Roles and Responsibilities include:System Installation, Maintenance & UpgradesInstall, upgrade, configure, and maintain z/OS and subsystems (JES2, RACF, CICS, DB2, IMS).Manage system updates, PTFs, APARs using SMP/E.Ensure system stability and compatibility across releases.Performance Tuning & Capacity PlanningMonitor and optimize CPU, memory, and I/O performance.Tune WLM, Sysplex, and critical components.Conduct capacity planning and recommend hardware upgrades.Security & ComplianceAdminister RACF and enforce security policies.Ensure compliance with SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA.Apply security patches and mitigate vulnerabilities.Storage & Backup ManagementManage DFSMS, VSAM, HSM, and storage tools.Oversee backups, DR, and high-availability solutions.Optimize disk and tape storage usage.Incident Management & TroubleshootingDiagnose and resolve system abends and bottlenecks.Analyze dumps, logs, and traces for root cause.Work with IBM support and vendors on complex issues.Automation & ScriptingDevelop automation using REXX, JCL, CLIST, Ansible.Improve monitoring, job scheduling, and efficiency.Automate repetitive tasks to streamline processes.Disaster Recovery & High AvailabilityImplement and test DR plans for business continuity.Maintain Parallel Sysplex and failover configurations.Documentation & Knowledge SharingMaintain technical documentation and best practices.Mentor junior team members and share knowledge.
