Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) on the z/OS mainframe platform to join our team. The DBA will be responsible for the installation, configuration, performance tuning, security, and maintenance of IBM DB2 databases on z/OS. This role plays a critical part in ensuring high availability, data integrity, and compliance across enterprise-level, mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration:

  • Install, configure, and manage DB2 subsystems, buffer pools, and storage groups.
  • Administer DB2 utilities and maintain database objects.

Performance Tuning & Optimization:

  • Monitor and optimize database and SQL query performance.
  • Analyze workloads, indexing strategies, and adjust system parameters for efficiency.

Backup, Recovery & Disaster Planning:

  • Design, implement, and test backup/recovery procedures.
  • Define and execute disaster recovery strategies.

Security & Compliance:

  • Manage database security with RACF and DB2 access controls.
  • Ensure adherence to data governance, compliance, and audit requirements.

Automation & Monitoring:

  • Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting (REXX, Shell, Python).
  • Proactively monitor databases using tools to prevent outages.

Collaboration & Support:

  • Partner with application developers, system programmers, and infrastructure teams.
  • Provide support during deployments, upgrades, and incident troubleshooting.

Documentation & Standards:

  • Maintain detailed technical documentation and knowledge base.
  • Define and enforce database standards, policies, and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise:

  • Hands-on experience with DB2 for z/OS (v10–v12) .
  • Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, VSAM, DB2 utilities .
  • Familiarity with SMP/E, RACF, IBM MQ for z/OS, IMS, and CICS connectivity with DB2 .
  • Strong knowledge of DB2 DDF (Distributed Data Facility) and remote connectivity.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in DB2 administration on z/OS .
  • Proven expertise in performance tuning, disaster recovery, and automation .

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in a hybrid setup.

Education & Certifications (Preferred):

  • IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2 for z/OS or equivalent.
