We are seeking a passionate and innovative Fashion Designer to join our team at Shades Of Sky, a clothing brand rooted in the textile-rich heritage of Coimbatore, our clothing brand is dedicated to creating stylish, sustainable fashion for women specialising in cotton materials tailored for the Indian climate, incorporating designs that aligns seamlessly with current fashion trends that celebrate the beauty of natural fabrics.

Our mission is to create inclusive clothing sizes customised to fit variety of body shapes making it easier for customers to find the perfect fit. Committed to ethical production and eco-friendly practices, we prioritize sustainability at every step, from fabric sourcing to garment creation.


The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of current trends, custom sizing, and a commitment to eco-friendly practices.


Responsibilities


This is a full-time on-site role for a Fashion Designer located in Coimbatore. The Fashion Designer will be responsible for

Trend Research and Analysis:

Stay updated on current fashion trends, color palettes, and textile innovations relevant to the Indian market.

Conduct market research to understand consumer preferences and seasonal demands

Design Development:

Create original clothing designs that highlight cotton materials, ensuring they are suitable for the Indian climate.

Incorporate contemporary trends into designs while maintaining brand identity.

Size Customization:

Develop a sizing system that accommodates various body shapes, ensuring inclusivity and comfort.

Collaborate with pattern makers to create accurate prototypes that reflect the custom sizing.

Material Selection:

Source high-quality cotton fabrics that are breathable and suitable for warm weather, considering factors like durability and comfort.

Technical Specifications:

Prepare detailed technical sketches and specifications for each design, including measurements, fabric types, and construction methods.

Ensure designs meet industry standards for quality and fit.

Sample Creation and Fitting:

Oversee the creation of sample garments and conduct fitting sessions to refine designs.

Gather feedback from testers and make necessary adjustments to improve fit and comfort.

Collaboration:

Work with other departments, such as marketing and production, to ensure alignment on design vision and timelines.

Collaborate with artisans and tailors to incorporate traditional techniques or embellishments.

Collection Planning:

Plan seasonal collections that tell a cohesive story and appeal to the target demographic.

Sustainability Initiatives:

Advocate for sustainable practices in design and production, focusing on eco-friendly materials and processes.

Explore innovative methods to reduce waste in the design and manufacturing stages.

Brand Representation:

Represent the brand at trade fairs, and exhibitions to showcase collections and network within the industry.

Continuous Improvement:

Stay informed about competitor offerings and industry innovations to maintain a competitive edge.


This role combines creativity with a deep understanding of the market and customer needs, making it essential to balance artistic vision with practical considerations.


Qualifications


1. Educational Background

- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field from a recognized institution.

- Additional certifications in sustainable fashion or textile management are a plus.

2. Experience

- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fashion design, preferably in the women's apparel industry with a focus on cotton materials.

- Experience with custom sizing and inclusivity in fashion design.

3. Technical Skills

- Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CorelDRAW, CAD).

- Strong knowledge of pattern-making, garment construction, and fitting techniques.

4. Understanding of Textiles

- In-depth knowledge of cotton fabrics, their properties, and suitability for various climates.

- Familiarity with sustainable and eco-friendly textile alternatives.

5. Design Acumen

- Strong portfolio showcasing creativity, innovation, and a keen sense of current fashion trends.

- Ability to create cohesive collections that reflect brand identity and customer preferences.

6. Sustainability Focus

- Commitment to ethical production practices and a passion for sustainability in fashion.

- Knowledge of sustainable sourcing, waste reduction strategies, and eco-friendly production processes.

7. Communication Skills

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with teams and stakeholders.

- Ability to present design concepts clearly and confidently.

8. Problem-Solving Abilities

- Strong analytical skills to assess trends, customer feedback, and production challenges.

- Creative problem-solving skills to find innovative solutions in design and production.
