System Engineer RoleAs a highly skilled system engineer, you will play a key role in the development and maintenance of our large-scale Research Information Management System (RIMS).The ideal candidate will have experience with Django/DRF systems, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, and Channels/WebSockets. They will also be familiar with observability, performance tuning, debugging, and API reliability.Key responsibilities include maintaining and extending the production-grade Django/DRF API powering profiles, publications, analytics, media, and integrations. This involves ensuring predictable performance, high uptime, optimal caching, and efficient query patterns across all surfaces.Additional responsibilities include managing multi-stage environments, overseeing web, worker, beat, and Channels/WebSocket processes, implementing secure release flows, administering and optimizing PostgreSQL, maintaining Redis and Celery, and implementing observability.The successful candidate will be able to iterate quickly in a high-velocity startup environment while balancing speed with stability. They will be a clear communicator who aligns fast, documents well, and thrives in ambiguity.Requirements:Deep experience with Django/DRF systems in production.Strong understanding of observability, performance tuning, debugging, and API reliability.Proficient with PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, and Channels/WebSockets.Nice to Have:Experience with FastAPI, SQLModel, or microservice patterns.Working knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets, or event-driven systems.Who You Are:An engineer who takes ownership of systems end-to-end.Comfortable debugging complex issues across API, DB, queues, and integrations.Able to iterate quickly in a high-velocity startup environment without compromising fundamentals.
