Job Title: Core Systems Engineer
Location: Bengaluru
Role
The Core Systems Engineer will be responsible for the holistic design, development, and management of Electro-Mechanical systems at Nexteer Automotive. This includes decomposing system requirements into Software, Mechanical, and Electrical domains, and supporting the execution of system designs through simulations, prototypes, and modeling. The role focuses on aligning technical development with cost considerations and global automotive engineering standards, while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Primary Responsibilities
• Decompose system requirements into actionable tasks for Software, Mechanical, and Electrical domains.
• Develop system designs that meet customer and regulatory requirements, aligning with Nexteer’s engineering standards.
• Support building block execution in Technical Alignment Plan (TAP) projects, ensuring system design compatibility across domains.
• Verify system concepts through simulations, modeling, or prototypes, comparing technical solutions to assess performance.
• Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to drive design discussions and resolve technical challenges.
• Ensure system performance evaluation through virtual engineering capabilities such as e-Design and Matlab/Simulink models.
Core Responsibilities
• Perform functional analysis and define system architecture, including boundary diagrams and item definitions.
• Develop electro-mechanical systems with a focus on Electric Power Steering (EPS), Steer-by-Wire (SBW), and other chassis systems.
• Analyze value modeling techniques for tradeoff analysis between different design and cost constraints.
• Collaborate with Electrical and Mechanical design teams for sensor and actuator integration, including motor topologies, torque, and position sensors.
• Support system safety initiatives in accordance with ISO26262 and similar safety standards.
• Engage in dynamic systems modeling, analysis, and algorithm development for system control and optimization.
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering.
Experience
7-10 years of experience in system engineering roles, preferably in the automotive industry, focusing on Electro-Mechanical systems and their integration.
Experience with steering systems, braking systems, or similar automotive chassis systems is preferred.
Required Skills
• Strong understanding of system architecture development, functional decomposition, and systems thinking.
• Proficiency in virtual engineering and simulation tools like Matlab/Simulink.
• Solid understanding of ASPICE processes, AGILE development methodologies, and configuration management tools.
• Excellent communication and technical leadership skills to collaborate across diverse engineering domains.
Preferred Skills
• Familiarity with sensor technology and design, especially for torque, position, and motor sensors.
• Understanding of electrical architecture, heat transfer fundamentals, and thermal modeling for power systems.
• Experience in DFM/DFMEA/PFMEA/DRBFM processes and tools like DRBTR.
• Previous experience in electro-mechanical systems design for Electric Power Steering (EPS) or Steer-by-Wire systems is a plus.
