Role Summary/PurposeEngineering Technical Leader - Platform Engineering will play a key role of providing technical leadership to the platform subsystem team, drive design and development of platform/ underframe components and subsystems.Essential ResponsibilitiesInterdependently lead the design and development of platform subsystem for locomotives following robust Engineering design and development process.Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory and Wabtec specifications.Proactively work with Leadership to shape technology roadmap for the team.Act as a mentor for less experienced members in global team setup.Must lead multiple complex projects by adhering to Wabtec processes while meeting business standards and program product requirements.Influence the technical direction for Truck/ Bogie sub-system to maximize the business impact.Assure proper documentation of technical data generated and utilize same for training and effort optimization.Represent the teambusiness in technical matters to customers, regulatory agencies, consultants, cross functional teams.Ability to understand the system requirements flow down to sub-system. Develop concepts and evaluate, identify risks and mitigation plans to address them.Take the design through technical reviews. Document the technical data consistent with Engineering policies and quality procedures.Provide shop support for in-house manufacturing and address supplier/field issues.Interfacing with cross functional stakeholders across the organization.Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.Participate in organizational initiatives and team activities.Qualifications/RequirementsBachelorsmaster's degree in mechanical engineering with minimum 12-15 years of design experience.Desired CharacteristicsShould have good understanding of design of platform structures.Should guide the CAD team to develop 3-D models and packaging concepts for platform subsystem.Good understanding of manufacturing processes including fabrication, casting, forging and mechanical assembly procedures and strong working knowledge on various design codes and welding codes.Good written and verbal communication skills in English.Must be a flexible to work at global locations.Familiarity with NPI/ APQP process.Deep technical understanding and competency in locomotive/ heavy vehicle chassis structural component design and related tools like FEA, Dynamics etc.Proven record of Engineering Design, manufacturing and reliability in areas welded structures FEA etc.Must have experience with heavy light fabricated & cast structures, suspension components design & evaluation.Good understanding of rail standards such as AAR, EN, RGS, UIC, APTA, GOST etc.Must have exceptional interpersonal Skills to interface effectively with cross functional teams.Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong technical leadership skills. Ability to work independently. Strong problem-solving skills.
