Designation : Lead / Senior Engineer Design- Motor Design
Reporting to : Project Lead Design
Location : Bangalore, Full Time
Qualification : BE / M-Tech in Mechanical Engineering Experience : 5 - 8 Years

Key Responsibilities / Functions:

New Product Development: Lead and contribute to the mechanical design process for various types of electrically powered products which include AC universal and brushless DC motors, marine winches and auxiliary winching components, high voltage transformers, and LED components. Projects will include ground-up design efforts generated from a product specification, as well as subcomponent design assistance on adjacent projects led by other colleagues.

Sustaining Engineering: Assist in normal day-to-day engineering support for legacy products. This will include identifying areas of improvement, executing Engineering Change Notices (ECN’s), ERP system updates to BOM’s and item masters, and communicating with the production team.

Component Design : Develop 3D models and detailed drawings for all mechanical components of each designed product. Such items include rotors, stators, shafts, gears, frames, housings, , and more. Design factors such as material selection, manufacturing processes, heat transfer efficiency, gear reduction, etc. must all be considered. Designed components will utilize numerous fabrication processes including CNC machining, die casting, injection molding, forging, stamping, bending, etc.

Prototyping: Create functional prototypes of new and/or improved designs. Prototyping will primarily use 3D printing and CNC machining fabrication processes. Each prototype will undergo repeat testing and iteration until a final, production representative design is finalized.

Material Select: Utilize your expertise to select appropriate materials for motor components, considering factors such as mechanical properties, thermal conductivity, and cost-effectiveness.

Manufacturing Process: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize production processes for motor components, ensuring manufacturability, efficiency, and quality control. DFM reviews with the manufacturing team will be common during the NPD process. At times, engineering support will be provided to the manufacturing team to assist in assembly equipment and tooling design.

Heat Transfer Optimization : Implement effective heat transfer mechanisms within product designs to ensure optimal thermal management and prevent overheating issues.

Structural Simulation: Utilize structural simulation tools to analyze and optimize the structural integrity and performance of motor components, ensuring durability and reliability under various operating conditions.

CFD Analysis: Utilize Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques to analyze and optimize the airflow and cooling systems within motors, maximizing thermal efficiency and performance.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, design engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate mechanical and electrical systems seamlessly within motor designs.

Documentation and Reporting : Generate comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and test reports, to ensure clear communication and documentation of design decisions and outcomes.

Required Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Master's degree is optional.
Thorough knowledge of various types of motors, their construction, and principles of operation.
Knowledge of gear design principles.
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) for 3D modeling and design.
Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM Professional.
Experience with structural simulation software (ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation) and CFD analysis tools (ANSYS or SolidWorks Flow Simulation) is preferred.
Strong understanding of material science, manufacturing processes, and heat transfer principles.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to overcome design challenges.
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality designs that meet performance and reliability requirements.

Nice to have Requirements:

Experience with ANSYS electric motor simulation software.
Experience in the context of overall product design.
Exposure to different international standards with respect to product design and testing
Exposure to process tools like Six Sigma, APQP, etc.
