Backend EngineerThis role involves leading the development and evolution of a Django/DRF-powered Research Information Management System (RIMS). Key responsibilities include maintaining and extending a production-grade API, ensuring predictable performance, managing environments and releases, administering PostgreSQL and Redis, implementing observability and security measures, and integrating external research pipelines.API Ownership & Reliability: Maintain a production-grade Django/DRF API, ensure predictable performance, drive clean API design, and manage environments.Environment, Release & Infrastructure Management: Manage multi-stage environments, oversee web and worker processes, implement secure release flows, and maintain static/media pipelines.Data Layer Operations: Administer and optimize PostgreSQL, maintain Redis and Celery, and implement observability.Integrations & External Research Pipelines: Own and maintain connectors for OpenAlex, Scopus, Clarivate, and other scholarly data providers.Governance, Security & Access Control: Steward Django Admin, RBAC, API key systems, and enforce practical security principles.Quality, Delivery & Roadmap Execution: Work closely with product to shape the roadmap, estimate features, plan releases, and manage trade-offs.Documentation & Developer Enablement: Maintain runbooks, onboarding guides, environment templates, and architectural diagrams.
