  • Project title: Design Optimization of Turbine Nozzle Guide Vane Three-Dimensional Airfoils


  • Description of the work:
  •   The project aims to develop a design optimization process for aircraft engine turbine blades.
  •   You will have to conduct CFD simulations of a turbine stage using ANSYS CFX.
  •   You will have to implement design optimization algorithms, such as genetic algorithms, using tools like MATLAB.
  •   You may have to explore few machine learning approaches for developing an inverse design process.
  •  You will be working in collaboration with the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), DRDO. The research results would be used in designing advanced combat aircraft engine turbines.  


Required Qualifications:

  • The prospective candidate should have an M.E/M.Tech or an equivalent degree from a tier 1 or tier 2 institution in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering in India or abroad. Candidates with a BTech degree having exceptional academic credentials will also be considered.
  • The candidate should have some experience with CFD simulations. Besides, expertise in optimization and machine learning are desirable.


  • We highly recommend that JRF register for a Ph.D. program in our Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department. Candidates with a strong interest in pursuing a Ph.D. will be given preference.
  • Salary: The monthly salary is going to be Rs. 43,600 p.m. (Rs.37,000 + 18% HRA) according to the DST standards, without any deductions. However, if the candidate resides on campus, HRA will not be paid.
