Our vision is to build trust, drive organic engagement, and make preventative healthcare a reality for all 8 billion of us.  Join us as we revolutionise the healthcare landscape and make early detection and prevention accessible to everyone.   About the role: We are looking for a highly skilled Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and scale the core backend systems that power Helfie.ai, an AI-driven preventive healthcare platform. You will play a key role in architecting resilient services, integrating AI pipelines, and ensuring the scalability and reliability of the health operating system we are building.   Key Responsibilities: Backend Development: Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable APIs and services using Python. System Architecture: Drive both High-Level (HLD) and Low-Level (LLD) designs to ensure modular, secure, and high-performance backend components. Service Ownership: Take ownership of key backend modules from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.AI and Data Integration: Collaborate closely with AI/ML teams to build and optimize inference pipelines, data preprocessing, and model-serving APIs. Database and Performance: Optimize database performance across relational and NoSQL systems and implement effective caching strategies using Redis or similar tools. Scalability and Reliability: Build distributed, fault-tolerant systems with strong observability, ensuring high uptime and consistent performance across environments. Testing and Quality: Write and maintain automated unit, integration, and load tests to ensure reliability and quality at scale. Security and Compliance: Apply secure coding practices, data privacy principles, and implement robust authentication and authorization mechanisms. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product, mobile, compliance, and DevOps teams to deliver seamless and high-quality releases. Code Quality and Mentorship: Participate in code reviews, contribute to technical standards, and mentor peers to promote engineering excellence.   Skills & Experience: This role requires someone who: Minimum 4 years of backend development experience, preferably using Python  Strong background in designing scalable, distributed systems such as microservices, API gateways, and event-driven architectures. Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB, and caching systems such as Redis or Memcached. Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes). Familiarity with observability stacks and performance tuning techniques. Experience in writing and maintaining automated tests (unit, integration, and load). Strong understanding of secure coding practises, data privacy and authentication/authorization mechanisms. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain system design decisions and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Proven ability to take complete ownership of backend services and work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.  Benefits: Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. Opportunities for professional growth and creative development. A vibrant, collaborative team environment.   Equal opportunity statement Helfie.ai is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We encourage applications from a wide range of candidates and selection for roles will be based on individual merit alone.    Office Hours and Work Location This role is a remote position based in India.  The role’s minimum availability times is 9am to 5pm.  The role is a full-time role and is required to work the hours necessary to achieve its purpose in collaboration with a broad, geographically and time availability complex team. It should be expected to require at times varied work hours to collaborate with international groups, organisations, and colleagues at times suitable for them. This will include weekend work, as well as early and late hours.  Work outside of normal office hours can be taken in lieu.  Role Type, Conflicts of Interest and Probationary Period This role is offered as a Permanent Full-Time role as an employee of Helfie.ai. Helfie.ai retains ownership of all intellectual property you develop or originate within this role. You are required to make known to Helfie.ai management immediately any conflicts of interest with responsibilities or activity with other organisations that have commercial or intellectual property interests overlapping with the business, research, or innovation domains that Helfie pursues. This includes healthcare, blockchains, cryptocurrency, information theory, data science, cryptography, and technology innovation. Failure to secure written permission for conflicts of interest is immediately dismissible and further subject to prosecution for recovery of damages and assertion of the legal ownership of any intellectual property created from the intellectual assets of Helfie. Information Security is critically important to Helfie. Disclosure without written approval by an executive manager of Helfie’s ways of working, methods, areas of interest, research, investments, strategies and other proprietary, commercial, or intellectually sensitive information can incur severe restrictions, immediate dismissal, and prosecution for recovery of financial damages such as future earnings and criminal charges. The probationary period for this role is 6 months from commencement with a one-week dismissal notice period during that time.
