We hire the best technology professionals from a variety of backgrounds, so they can bring an assortment of knowledge, skills, and diverse thinking to deliver innovative solutions in every area of the enterprise. About the Business Function:  The Technology at Lilly - Digital Office (DO) and Global Services (GS) team leads digitalization across organizations spanning the enterprise with Finance, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Corporate Affairs and Human Resources as well delivers best-in-class ERP Solutions.   This team leverages technology and analytics to enable transformations across the enterprise. Global Service Technical Innovation (GSTI), sub-function within Global Services, established to serve the AI and Automation needs of areas mentioned above.Job Title: Principal – AI/ML & Data ScienceAs a Principal/Sr Principal at R4 level, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI/ML models and data solutions that drive strategic decision-making and operational efficiency across Lilly's global services. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and compliant products, while mentoring junior and senior AI/ML engineers and contributing to innovation initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesAI/ML Model Development: Build, train, and optimise models for predictive analytics, NLP, recommendation systems, and GenAI use cases.Designs: Ability to break down moderately complex problems to implement for increased business impact.Extracting insights from data and solving business problems using statistical analysis and ML.Data Engineering: Design and maintain robust data pipelines using AWS and modern lakehouse architecture.System Design & Integration: Lead the system design efforts and collaborate with architects & software engineers to integrate models into enterprise platforms.Automation & DevOps: Implement CI/CD pipelines, automate workflows, and ensure model monitoring and retraining.Validation & Compliance: Author validation documents and ensure adherence to AI/ML system validation expectations.Innovation & Prototyping: Lead POCs and contribute to AI innovation spikes, including internal tools like Cortex.Mentorship & Collaboration: Guide junior engineers and collaborate with global business and IT teams.Continuous Improvements: Drives and enforces the team process improvements, ensuring others are brought along in understanding the benefits and tradeoffs.Basic Qualifications: M.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering with at least 8 years of experience (excluding internships) in the industry ORB.S. in one of the above fields with 10+ years of experience (excluding internships) in the industry, including SME experience in data science and AI/ML engineering space.Deep understanding of machine learning and statistics models and experience with deploying models to solve business problems.Experience with GenAI and NLP applications.Strong proficiency in Python, R, Java; experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn.Must Have:Expertise in data modelling, data visualization, statistical methods, and algorithm optimisation.Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data lakehouse architecture.Excellent communication skills, with an strong passion for data storytelling.Ability to communicate complex technical problems to non-technical audiences.Good to Have:Experience in delivering projects involving AI/ML frameworks and regulatory compliance.Familiarity with AI ethics, bias mitigation, and validation protocols for regulated systems.Additional Skills/Preferences:Understanding of advanced analytics in statistics and machine learningProficiency with grammar of graphics and data story telling Internal or external consulting experienceAgility and flexibility to work with very diverse problems and business partners Self-management skills with a focus on results for timely and accurate completion of competing deliverable Additional Information:When applying please attach or submit a link to your portfolio of workYou will be on a hybrid work schedule in Bengaluru, India.Note: When applying internally for a position your current supervisor receives notification that you have applied to the position.
