Job Description: Senior Analyst/Specialist/Manager – SMART Underwriting (Property) The Position We’re building our India-based Property Underwriting Center of Excellence to support and scale our global insurance operations. Join our SMART Underwriting team to partner with U.S. underwriters and drive risk intelligence, catastrophe modeling, and portfolio optimization across commercial property lines. We invite Underwriting Analysts, Specialists, and Managers with 2–12 years of experience to apply — whether you’re an early-career professional learning the ropes of underwriting, or an experienced leader shaping technical strategy. (Responsibilities expand with experience and seniority) Underwriting Support & Risk Analysis Review and triage property submissions for accuracy and completeness, responsible for E2E policy lifecycle management. Capture, validate, and analyze COPE (Construction, Occupancy, Protection, Exposure) details. Validate Statements of Values (SOVs) and perform Insurance-to-Value (ITV) checks. Conduct catastrophe risk modeling (wind, flood, quake, wildfire, convective storm). Support underwriting decisions through exposure summaries, quotes, and binders. Policy issuance and policy terms and conditions reading and comprehension Prepare underwriting files, quotes, binders, and policy issuance instructions. Portfolio & Pricing Management Evaluate accumulation thresholds, clash scenarios, and capacity utilization. Apply technical pricing models, sensitivity analyses, and noncat/catastrophe load adjustments. Monitor underwriting KPIs such as premium adequacy, hit ratios, and loss ratios. Contribute to facultative reinsurance placements and portfolio optimization strategies. Leadership & Strategy (for senior levels) Lead end-to-end underwriting support across U.S. property portfolios. Develop and enforce risk evaluation frameworks and underwriting validation standards. Monitor accumulation management and CAT modeling consistency across geographies. Collaborate with global underwriting leadership on portfolio strategy and risk appetite. Mentor junior team members and foster continuous learning and operational excellence. Partner with digital innovation teams to enhance underwriting automation and analytics. Requirements: Skills & Competencies (Depth and leadership expectations vary by experience level) Technical Expertise: 2–12 years of experience in property underwriting functions, E2E Policy management, and analytics. Strong understanding of policy terms and conditions, exclusions, coverages, COPE, SOVs, ITV, and CAT modeling frameworks. Experience with CAT modeling systems and underwriting and interpretation of CAT risk Strong Excel and data analysis skills; familiarity with submission details, pricing and rating structures. Leadership & Collaboration: Ability to coordinate with U.S. underwriting teams and brokers. For senior levels – experience leading underwriting teams and managing risk aggregation. Mindset & Aptitude: Analytical thinker with curiosity to understand complex property risks. Collaborative and detail-oriented, with a drive for continuous improvement.
