Head of Powertrain – Design & Development
Competencies and Domain Expertise:
1.Electric Powertrain Design:
- In-depth knowledge of electric motor technologies, including Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM), Asynchronous Motors (Induction Motors), and Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM).
- Expertise in motor design software and analysis tools, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for thermal management.
- Familiarity with power electronics and inverters, including Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) and Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductors.
2.Battery Management Systems (BMS):
- Proficiency in developing BMS algorithms for State-of-Charge (SOC) estimation, State-of-Health (SOH) monitoring, and thermal management of battery packs.
- Experience with battery cell chemistries, such as Lithium-Ion (Li-ion), and knowledge of cell balancing techniques.
- Familiarity with communication protocols like Controller Area Network (CAN) and ISO 15118 for bidirectional charging.
3.Motor Controller Software:
- Expertise in motor controller firmware development, including Field-Oriented Control (FOC) and Direct Torque Control (DTC) algorithms.
- Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development for precise motor control.
- Understanding of sensorless motor control techniques and position feedback systems.
4.Vehicle Control Software:
- Proficiency in developing vehicle control software for functions like traction control, regenerative braking, and torque vectoring.
- Knowledge of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving features.
- Experience with vehicle network architectures and protocols like Controller Area Network (CAN) and Ethernet.
5.Systems Integration:
- Ability to integrate powertrain components with vehicle control units, infotainment systems, and other vehicle subsystems.
- Understanding of software integration platforms and middleware, such as AUTOSAR.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and on-board diagnostics (OBD) for fault detection and reporting.
6.Functional Safety:
- Proficiency in functional safety standards (ISO 26262) and safety-critical software development processes.
- Experience with safety analysis methods, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA).
7.Testing and Validation:
- Knowledge of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing methodologies.
- Experience in creating test plans, executing validation tests, and analyzing results.
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems and data logging tools.
8.Emerging Technologies:
- Stay updated on emerging technologies in the electric powertrain field, such as advanced materials for motor design, solid-state batteries, and SiC/GaN power electronics.
Skills and Abilities:
- Exceptional technical leadership, project management, and team coordination skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in complex powertrain systems.
- Proficiency in software development languages (e.g., C/C++, Python), modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink), and software development frameworks.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Ability to evaluate and adopt new technologies and methodologies to enhance powertrain performance, efficiency, and safety.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
- Extensive experience in designing and developing electric powertrain systems, with a focus on software-driven optimization.
- Proficiency in motor controller software, battery management systems, and vehicle control software.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to electric vehicles.
- Proven track record of successfully leading complex software-intensive projects.
- Strong knowledge of software development methodologies and tools, including model-based design and simulation.
