Job Description SummaryThe Lead Engineer is an individual contributor 'hardware owning' engineer reporting to an Engineering Manager within the Aerospace Engineering Division's Production Technologies team. As a hardware owner you will own all engineering functions related to the production of assigned Commercial and Aero-derivative components in the Combustors and Structures commodities.In this role, you will be on the front lines of a new organization that is dedicated to improving the producibility, enhancing the Engineering-Supply chain relationship, and using SQDC to dramatically improve the health of the supply chain and product to enable the business to fulfil our customers' expectations.Examples of specific tasks you will be responsible for are: producibility design changes, on-going manufacturing support, and strategic improvements across Castings, Forgings, Machining, and Coatings for the assigned commodity.Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.
Job DescriptionEssential ResponsibilitiesExecute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all productsDeveloping in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members
Qualifications/RequirementsPhD/ MTech/ MS/ BTech in Mechanical/ Aerospace/ Structural Engineering or equivalent6+ years of relevant experience on Stress Analyses of aircraft engine/ turbomachinery componentsDemonstrated experience on applying Geometry, Finite Element and optimization methods for design evaluationDemonstrated expertise on Commercial FE Packages such as ANSYSStrong oral and written communication skills
Desired CharacteristicsPrevious experience in manufacturing, especially of Aerospace components.Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problemsAbility to document, plan, market, and execute programsEffective project management skillsExposure to Aircraft engines or Gas turbine product knowledgeAbility to build macros/ automation within work areaAbility to start problem solving from first principles, hand calculation.Awareness of Lean/Six-sigma methodologies
