Model Validation SpecialistThe role of a Model Validation Specialist is to lead independent validations and reviews of various risk models. This involves ensuring that models function as intended, comply with regulatory requirements, and accurately identify, measure, and report risks to senior management.Key responsibilities include performing in-depth validations and reviews of new and existing models used across the organization, including those for fraud risk, compliance risk, and other areas. The Specialist will also provide effective challenges throughout the validation process to ensure models are robust and assumptions are justified.Additionally, the Model Validation Specialist will:Test model conceptual soundness, data accuracy, methodology, and ongoing performance through techniques like backtesting, benchmarking, and stress testing.Present findings, weaknesses, and observations identified from the validation to model developers/owners and provide executable remediation plans.Prepare detailed validation reports and memos documenting the validation approach, findings, and conclusions.Participate in internal audits and regulatory exams by presenting validation results and methodologies and assisting in the remediation of any audit or exam findings.Act as a subject matter expert on modeling techniques, risk management practices, and regulatory trends.Required qualifications include a Master's degree (or equivalent) in a quantitative discipline and at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and at least 5 years of relevant experience. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or SAS is also required.The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in statistical and AI/ML model development or validation, with a strong understanding of quantitative modeling methods and techniques used for various risk predictive models. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential to clearly articulate complex technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.A solid knowledge of model risk management policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory guidance is also necessary. Experience working in a fast-paced environment and ability to meet deadlines are highly desirable.
