Climate Change Expert: Sustainable Agriculture Specialist

We create markets and opportunities in developing countries, using our capital, expertise, and influence to drive sustainable growth.Our team seeks an experienced Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Solutions Specialist to identify, evaluate, and deploy CSA technologies across select agricultural value chains. The specialist will work closely with technology providers, implementing partners, and financial institutions to assess technological impact and design financing solutions that promote CSA practices.The Climate-Smart Agriculture Solutions Specialist will report to the IFC Project Leader and work with a multi-disciplinary team. All deliverables required for this assignment will be subject to approval by the IFC Project Leader and other appropriate technical officers.Professional fees will be paid after completion of deliverables and submission of invoices and timesheets. Reimbursable expenses will be paid upon submission and approval of invoices and accompanying receipts.The assignment will span up to 100 working days between December 2025 to June 2026. The contract may be extended based on business need and consultant performance.Key Responsibilities:Identify and evaluate CSA technologies suited to selected value chains.Work with AgTech solution providers to assess the performance of CSA technologies in terms of productivity improvement and resource reduction.Develop metrics and methodologies to estimate greenhouse gas emission reductions attributed to specific technologies or farming practices.Translate agronomic and sustainability benefits into financing metrics to support loan product design for FIs.Support stakeholder engagements, including farmer groups and lenders, to identify barriers to CSA technology adoption.Continuously track and apply relevant global best practices in sustainable agriculture and digital agri finance.Requirements:Advanced degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, or a related field.Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in agricultural finance, sustainable agriculture, or climate-resilient value chains.Strong understanding of local and global agribusiness environments and awareness of CSA technologies.Experience working with AgTech providers, farmer organizations, and FIs to develop climate-aligned products or investment strategies.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in conducting field-based assessments of agricultural technologies.Familiarity with GHG accounting tools.Proven experience in organizing and delivering capacity-building activities.What You Will Do:As a Climate-Smart Agriculture Solutions Specialist, you will lead the identification, evaluation, and deployment of CSA technologies across select agricultural value chains. You will work closely with AgTech providers, implementing partners, and financial institutions to design financing solutions that promote CSA practices.You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, including IFC departments, World Bank teams, current and potential private sector clients, government counterparts, and key stakeholders to identify investment opportunities in productive, inclusive, and resilient agriculture.Additionally, you will prepare comprehensive reports, case studies, and policy briefs to document project outcomes, good practices, and lessons learned.Selection Criteria:Advanced degree in a relevant field.Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in agricultural finance, sustainable agriculture, or climate-resilient value chains.Strong understanding of local and global agribusiness environments and awareness of CSA technologies.Experience working with AgTech providers, farmer organizations, and FIs to develop climate-aligned products or investment strategies.
