JOB SUMMARY

The Product Cycle Test Engineer will be responsible for conducting and analysing cycle life testing, performance validation, and product durability for Li-ion battery cells in the product development phase. This role ensures that battery cells meet performance, safety, and reliability standards by performing rigorous testing cycles and providing critical feedback to enhance cell design and performance.



RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cycle Life Testing: Plan, execute, and monitor long-term cycle life tests, including charge/discharge cycles, thermal cycling, and rate capability tests to assess battery performance and longevity.
  • Performance Validation: Test battery cells under various operating conditions to validate energy density, capacity retention, cycle stability, and efficiency over time.
  • Test Protocol Development: Develop and implement standardised testing procedures and protocols to evaluate cell performance and ensure consistency in results across different battery formulations.
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Gather and analyse data from product cycle tests, identifying trends, performance degradation, and factors affecting cell performance to inform design improvements.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed reports documenting testing methodologies, results, and recommendations for product optimisation, providing technical feedback to R&D and product development teams.
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with R&D engineers, material scientists, and product development teams to ensure that testing aligns with product development goals and performance benchmarks.
  • Test Equipment Management: Operate and maintain testing equipment (e.g., battery cyclers, environmental chambers), ensuring calibration and proper functionality throughout the testing process.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience


Essential:

  • Battery Testing Expertise: Strong knowledge of Li-ion battery testing methodologies, including charge/discharge cycles, rate capability, and cycle life testing.
  • Data Analysis & Interpretation: Proficient in collecting, analysing, and interpreting battery performance data to identify trends and correlations related to cycle life and efficiency.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to perform tests with precision and maintain thorough documentation of testing protocols, results, and insights.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Capable of identifying issues in battery performance and recommending actionable solutions to improve product design.
  • Test Equipment Proficiency: Hands-on experience with battery testing equipment such as cyclers, environmental chambers, and data acquisition systems.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and present technical findings clearly.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple testing projects simultaneously, adhering to timelines and delivering results efficiently.


Role Specific Qualifications/Certifications

  • This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in battery testing, performance validation, and data analysis, looking to contribute to the development and refinement of high-performance Li-ion batteries in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • This role is well-suited to an engineer with a PhD in electrical, chemical, materials or manufacturing engineering, with a focus on Li-ion battery technology and performance validation.
