Fashion Production Manager

We are seeking an organized, proactive, and detail-oriented Production Manager to oversee and manage our new clothing production unit. The Production Manager will play a crucial role in setting up the unit, ensuring timely sourcing of materials, maintaining high-quality production standards, and coordinating daily operations. This role requires a keen understanding of garment production, problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead a team effectively. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of technical skills and hands-on experience in production management within the apparel industry, with a particular focus on small scale, boutique oriented setups and handmade or artisanal productions.
Key Responsibilities:
Setup and Planning:
- Assist in the physical setup of the production unit, ensuring a smooth operational layout that supports an efficient workflow.
- Develop and implement operating procedures for production processes, quality control, and reporting.
Production Scheduling and Materials Management:
- Receive and analyze the production schedule; assess material and time requirements, and report any potential issues or constraints to the management.
- Plan and manage the sourcing of all necessary materials including fabrics, trimmings and additional accessories to ensure smooth production flow.
Technical Oversight:
- Review tech packs, design specifications, and patterns with the production team to fully understand each garment's requirements.
- Communicate specific instructions or adjustments as required, ensuring alignment with design and production goals.
Daily Production Supervision:
- Oversee day-to-day production operations, proactively identifying and solving any issues that arise to prevent delays or quality lapses.
- Implement quality control measures, monitoring production outputs to ensure all garments meet company standards.
- Troubleshoot and address any production or quality issues, escalating to management if necessary, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Inventory and Organization:
- Manage and organize fabric inventory and paper patterns, helping minimize waste.
- Keep all materials and patterns organized and accessible to streamline production processes.
Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare and submit daily production status reports, outlining production progress, challenges, and resolutions to the management.
- Maintain clear communication with the design team to ensure alignment on production targets and timelines.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Technology, Apparel Production, Textile Management, or a related field (preferred but not required).
Language: Fluent Tamil and English
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in garment production in a high fashion environment, ideally in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience in production setup and planning, with a solid understanding of garment construction, materials sourcing, and quality control.
- Experience in high end, handmade, artisanal or small scale productions
Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with tech packs, patternmaking, and garment grading.
- Strong knowledge of textiles, dyeing processes, and apparel production machinery.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent leadership abilities, with experience managing and motivating a production team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with designers, artisans, suppliers, and other departments.
Organizational Skills:
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple production tasks and inventory effectively.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
