Job Description

Senior Performance Engineer conducts a wide range of quality control tests and analysis to ensure that software meets or exceeds specified standards and end-user requirements and monitor the performance of the production systems. In addition, the Senior Performance Engineer provides guidance and collaborates with various groups to develop and deploy high performing applications and systems.


Experience Level:

  • Six (6) to Nive (9) years working as a Performance Engineer or related experience with high load, large-scale distributed systems, client-server architectures on-prem and cloud
  • One (1) year of experience in software application development or test automation



Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with team leaders and other architects to develop end-to-end performance engineering strategies and determines the protocols required for various applications and platforms.
  • Designs and implements availability, scalability, and performance plans for various platforms.
  • Identifies and documents inefficient workflows, processes, and functions that fail to meet existing business requirements and suggests and implements improvements.
  • Review and execution of Tests and Workload Designs, scripts, configurations and runs of performance tests to validate production readiness of software applications and infrastructure for stability and performance against Non-functional Requirements.
  • Procures, compiles, and conditions test data as needed to properly simulate test scenarios like production.
  • Examines the test environment and the scaling to production and creates test strategy – approach to provide sign off for production
  • Collaborates with various teams to mitigate performance bottlenecks throughout the entire application stack.
  • Recommends improvements to the architecture and deployment of applications.
  • A Subject Matter Expert on methods of integrating testing best practices into the application development lifecycle to successfully reduce friction, identify potential problems early, and improve cross-collaboration.
  • Detects data-distribution shortfalls and recommends solutions to optimize and automate data conditioning to improve test accuracy.
  • Evaluates gaps between current process efficiency and desired goals across the entire application test cycle.
  • Evaluates resiliency and scalability of processes and applications supporting business units.
  • Leads initiatives that enable knowledge sharing, cross-collaboration, standardization and innovation.
  • Researches, designs, recommends, and drive performance strategies for emerging technologies such as cloud, or containerization.
  • Leads or participates in enterprise initiatives.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship for performance engineering processes, tools and best practices.
  • Creates, and participates in the Performance Engineering Community of Practice which is a technical platform that enables knowledge sharing, cross-collaboration, standardization, and innovation.
  • Collaborates with developers, DevOps and other engineers throughout the entire SDLC.
  • Diagnoses, tracks, and manages performance issues to resolution in testing and production environments.
  • Designs, builds and uses dashboards that enable efficient monitoring of applications and systems running in production environments to troubleshoot issues and report findings.
  • Provides summaries and assessments of the application’s performance, emphasizing trends over time.
  • Conducts “deep dive” analysis of data when trends or anomalies are identified.
  • Collaborates with AD teams during story design to ensure new application features are developed in a performant and resilient manner.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and other project related meetings.


Must have Skills and Competencies

  • Understanding of performance analysis and testing processes
  • Familiar with application architecture, design, capacity planning, and application performance best practices
  • Hands-on experience with load testing tools like HP LoadRunner, jMeter, Neoload, Blazemeter, Performance Center, GatlingExperience with monitoring, APM tools like Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, CA APM and visualization - analytics tools such as ELK, Splunk, Grafana, Kibana, Prometheus, Tableau…Experience with engineering tools and frameworks such as Fiddler, jVisualVM, mountebank, SonarQube, ZAP,…Experience with chaos engineering tools and frameworks such as Chaos Monkey, Gremlin, Azure Chaos, AWS chaos,…Knowledge of application scalability and performance tuning (Web, App, DB)
  • Ability to dissect multi-tiered systems and track data flow throughout an entire application stack
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Familiar of mobile app (Android and iOS) and web technology stack (HTTP, REST, HTML, JavaScript, CSS)
  • Familiar with SQL/NoSQL databases – querying, profiling and tuning
