Position Title: Manager – Water & Waste Water Treatment

Background
India is a vast country, but only 28% of urban wastewater is treated, polluting all major rivers. This challenge is magnified when we serve rural and peri-urban communities. Urban areas have limited sewage treatment capacity, while rural and peri-urban areas often need wastewater infrastructure. Amid a limited understanding of untreated wastewater's environmental and health impacts in rural and peri-urban communities, Safe Water Network India wishes to develop and influence sustainable solutions to this problem as a responsible non-profit organization. Addressing wastewater management at both urban and rural levels will improve freshwater quality and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
Position Summary
The incumbent will lead wastewater system activities, including identification, planning, direct coordination, and participation in opportunities. The position includes maintenance, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance. The role involves ensuring compliance with environmental standards, optimizing treatment processes, and promoting sustainable water management practices to support community health and environmental protection. The position requires the candidate to set operating policies and procedures and perform related work as assigned.
Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and community representatives to gather input, align priorities, and promote participatory planning processes.

Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Responsible for treating wastewater in colonies, including sewage collection, treatment, and disposal.
- Focus on solutions like Bio-Enzyme treatment, Rural packaged wastewater solutions, MBR for domestic and industrial waste, Grey water management and recycling, Nano aeration solutions. Ensure all equipment functions efficiently, including pumps, aerators, and sludge handling systems.
- Monitor influent and effluent quality to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Process Optimization
- Analyze wastewater treatment processes and identify areas for efficiency improvement.
- Implement advanced treatment technologies, if applicable, to improve water quality and reuse potential.
- Reduce energy and chemical usage while maintaining operational standards.
Regulatory Compliance
- Follow local, state, and national wastewater treatment regulations, including effluent discharge standards.
- Compliance with statutory safety practices for workforce and equipment .
- Maintain accurate records and submit compliance reports to the line manager.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings, recommendations, and progress to project teams, clients, and funding agencies.
- Collaborate with residential colony management committees, local governing bodies, and environmental agencies.
- Provide technical support and training to on-ground staff for effective wastewater management.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for treatment plant equipment.
- Please address and resolve operational issues quickly to reduce downtime.
Community Awareness
- Educate residents about wastewater management, water conservation, and clean drainage systems.
- Promote initiatives for treated wastewater reuse (e.g., for landscaping or non-potable purposes).
Fundraising Support
- Identify, conceptualize, and prepare proposals to support initiatives in wastewater management.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and donors to design and submit impactful proposals aligned with the organization's mission of advancing sustainable water and sanitation solutions.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare monthly and annual reports on plant performance, including water quality metrics, operational challenges, and improvements undertaken.
- I'd like you to maintain records of treated wastewater volumes and resources consumed.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate or graduate (B.Tech/B.E.) in Mechanical from a reputed university
- Prior hands-on experience and skills in the sewage treatment plant, estimation and costing, project execution, and detailed process engineering
- Detail Process Engineering & Execution of Water & Wastewater treatment plants
- Knowledge of different types of technologies such as MBBR, MBR, and SBR
- Knowledge of Basic Engineering, Detailed Engineering, Hydraulics, P&ID, BEP, HFD, and Layout
- Knowledge of proper methods of repairing, lubricating, and maintaining mechanical equipment
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with the facility and related activities and necessary safety precautions
- Knowledge of the maintenance, repair, and adjustment of wastewater pumps, chemical feeders, and other facility equipment
- Ability to take accurate readings and maintain accurate records
- Ability to monitor equipment operations and detect defects in those operations
- Ability to perform mathematical computation as applied to wastewater treatment and analysis
