Job Title: US Mortgage Underwriter

Location: Mumbai, India

Experience: 2 - 10 Years


Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled US Mortgage Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting mortgage loans and ensuring that all processes are completed in alignment with industry standards. You will work with a variety of loan types, including Conventional, USDA, FHA, and VA, and will apply comprehensive underwriting guidelines to assess creditworthiness and risk.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and underwrite mortgage loans, ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
  • Work with the 4 C’s of underwriting: Credit, Capacity, Capital, and Collateral.
  • Conduct detailed income calculations for various income types (wage, self-employed, and other incomes).
  • Review credit reports and perform liability reconciliations in line with underwriting guidelines.
  • Assess assets and capital against guideline requirements.
  • Perform calculations such as LTV, CLTV, PITI, and DTI.
  • Ensure compliance with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines, as well as government loan requirements (FHA, VA, and USDA).
  • Review appraisal reports and clear conditions from the AUS (Automated Underwriting System) report.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, ensuring timely and effective responses to inquiries.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in US Mortgage Underwriting.
  • In-depth knowledge of the 4 C's of underwriting: Credit, Capacity, Capital, and Collateral.
  • Expertise in income calculation for different income types (self-employed, salaried, other income).
  • Strong understanding of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA/VA/USDA guidelines.
  • Experience in calculating LTV, CLTV, PITI, and DTI.
  • Proficiency in reviewing appraisal reports.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently under pressure.


Education & Qualifications:

  • A degree in any discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in US Mortgage Underwriting.
