Linux Repository Maintainer Job DescriptionAbout the Role:We are seeking a highly skilled Linux repository maintainer to join our team. As a key member of our technical staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of our software repository.The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of Linux systems, including Bash scripting, C programming, and Python. Proficiency in GCC, Makefiles, and software patching is also essential. Additionally, experience with CVS and Git version control systems is required.Familiarity with Slackware Linux is a significant advantage, as candidates with this expertise will be prioritized over those with knowledge of other distributions like Red Hat or Debian.Key Responsibilities:Maintain the integrity and security of the software repository.Compile and create software from source code.Develop and manage software patches.Review and test changes to ensure quality and consistency.Collaborate with upstream developers to resolve issues.Provide bug fixes and maintain changelogs.Nature of the Job:This is a part-time contract-based position, requiring a maximum of 6 hours per week. The job tenure is 6 months, renewable for another 6 months subject to performance.Work Environment:Remote work is available, with a good broadband internet connection and IPv6 facility mandatory for remote logins and work. Employment gaps are acceptable if accompanied by relevant skills and experience.Candidate Requirements:Minimum experience: 1-2 years.Excellent communication and teamwork skills.Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.Fluency in English with strong verbal and written skills.
