Job title: Vendor Development Manager
Alternate titles: Supplier Development Manager, Procurement Development Manager
Role Overview:
The Vendor Development Manager is responsible for identifying, assessing, and nurturing vendor and manufacturer relationships to ensure optimal product quality, scalability, and delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Vendor Identification and Onboarding:
- Identify potential vendors/manufacturers for toolkits.
- Assess vendors for quality, capacity, cost-efficiency, and reliability.
- Develop and onboard new vendors in alignment with business requirements.
2. Vendor Relationship Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for vendor communications.
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with key suppliers.
- Monitor vendor compliance with contracts, agreements, and SLAs.
3. Production and Capacity Management:
- Work with vendors to scale production capacity in line with sales forecasts.
- Develop production schedules and timelines to meet delivery commitments.
- Address bottlenecks in production or supply chain to ensure smooth operations.
4. Quality Assurance and Improvement:
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure adherence to quality standards and certifications.
- Implement continuous improvement programs to reduce defects and enhance product quality.
- Conduct periodic audits and inspections to monitor vendor performance.
5. Cost Optimization and Efficiency:
- Negotiate pricing and terms with vendors to optimize costs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, waste reduction, and cost savings.
6. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Develop KPIs to measure vendor performance (e.g., quality, lead times, capacity utilization).
- Provide regular reports and insights on vendor performance, risks, and opportunities.
7. Collaboration with Sales and Supply Teams:
- Align vendor production schedules with sales forecasts and delivery requirements.
- Work closely with internal teams to address supply chain risks and challenges.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or Engineering.
2. 3+ years of experience in vendor management, supplier development, or procurement.
3. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, and production scaling.
4. Excellent negotiation, relationship management, and communication skills.
5. Analytical mindset with the ability to monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
6. Proficiency in tools like MS Excel, MS office, or supply chain management software.
7. Ability to work in dynamic, fast-paced environments and adapt to changing priorities.
Key Metrics for Success:
1. Vendor quality compliance rates (defect-free delivery percentage).
2. On-time delivery performance.
3. Production scalability (increase in production capacity).
4. Cost savings achieved through negotiations or process improvements.
5. Supplier relationship health and satisfaction
