Description AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design planning delivery and operation of all AWS global infrastructure-solving complex challenges with thousands of variables that impact how businesses access and rely on AWS Keep the cloud running and help millions innovate You ll ensure data centers operate flawlessly managing servers storage networking power and cooling equipment that keep AWS available 24 7-the foundation enabling continuous customer innovation Join a diverse team of operations engineers engineers hardware specialists network engineers supply chain experts and security professionals collaborating across AWS You ll deliver the highest safety and security standards while driving down costs and scaling capacity We foster an inclusive culture where bold ideas are welcomed and you own projects to completion Ready to tackle challenging problems at massive scale with talented passionate people This is your opportunity Key job responsibilities The Data Center Engineering Operations Engineer ensures all electrical mechanical and fire life safety equipment operates within contracted parameters while driving innovation to optimize efficiency and reduce operational costs This role encompasses risk management infrastructure maintenance vendor management performance reporting and root cause analysis Serving as technical subject matter expert for hands-on troubleshooting of critical infrastructure including generators switchgear UPS systems PDUs chillers cooling towers air handlers and building automation systems Managing contractors sub-contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with established practices procedures and local legislation Conducting root cause analysis for operational issues and implementing corrective actions o Establishing performance benchmarks and preparing comprehensive reports on facility infrastructure operations Collaborating with DCO managers business leaders and partners to coordinate projects manage capacity and optimize safety performance reliability and sustainability Supporting rack installation with proper power and cooling provisioning o Implementing preventative and corrective maintenance programs for critical infrastructure Developing metrics and dashboards for facility performance monitoring Ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations Leading continuous improvement initiatives to achieve operational excellence and uptime targets A day in the life You ll be the technical expert ensuring 24 7 uptime of critical infrastructure powering AWS services globally Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within SLAs serving as technical escalation point for complex electrical and mechanical issues Execute rack installations decommissioning and facility modifications with proper power and cooling provisioning Monitor critical infrastructure through building automation systems providing real-time operational readings and KPIs to maintain 99 999 uptime targets Manage on-site contractors ensuring compliance with safety practices Collaborate with DCO managers and field engineers on capacity planning and incident response Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions Work schedule varies-shifts up to 12 hours with rotating schedules and on-call responsibilities About the team About AWS Diverse Experiences Amazon values diverse experiences Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description we encourage candidates to apply If your career is just starting hasn t followed a traditional path or includes alternative experiences don t let it stop you from applying Why AWS Amazon Web Services AWS is the world s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform We pioneered cloud computing and never stopped innovating - Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related field - 5 years of data center engineering or operations experience - 5 years of Microsoft Office including Outlook Word and Excel experience - Experience in vendor management - 5 years of data center or mission critical facilities example hospital military facility public safety facility etc experience Preferred Qualifications - Electrical or mechanical Journeyman License - Experience in construction or project management - Knowledge of electrical systems in critical Data Center operations that include but are not limited to utility substation feeds transformers switchgear VFI Class UPS DRUPS PDUs ATS STS SLA VRLA batteries and associated systems diesel gas turbine generators and related fuel systems Surge Suppression Active Harmonic Filtering battery monitoring systems branch circuit monitoring systems or SCADA systems -
