Chief Medical Officer Position Summary The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Maharashtra's 108 Ambulance Service plays a strategic and operational role in ensuring high-quality pre-hospital emergency care across the state. This position oversees clinical protocols, staff training, and compliance with the National Health Mission (NHM) and Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) standards. Key Responsibilities: Clinical Governance - Develop and implement evidence-based medical protocols for trauma, cardiac, obstetric, pediatric, and infectious emergencies. - Supervise clinical performance of EMTs, paramedics, and call center medical officers. - Ensure timely updates to treatment algorithms based on national and international guidelines. Quality Assurance & Training - Lead statewide Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives. - Conduct audits of patient care records, response times, and clinical outcomes. - Design and oversee training modules for EMS personnel, including BLS, ACLS, and PHTLS. Regulatory Compliance - Ensure compliance with NHM, CDSCO, and MEMS standards. - Liaise with the Directorate of Health Services, Maharashtra, and other regulatory bodies. - Support licensing, accreditation, and inspection readiness for ambulances and staff. Emergency Operations Support - Provide clinical oversight during mass casualty incidents, epidemics, and natural disasters. - Guide dispatch centers on triage and medical prioritization. - Approve medical equipment and drug formulary used in ambulances. Stakeholder Engagement - Collaborate with government hospitals, private healthcare providers, and public health officials. - Represent MEMS in medical advisory boards, policy forums, and community outreach. - Address clinical grievances and ensure patient-centric care delivery. Qualifications - MBBS degree with specialization in Emergency Medicine, Public Health, or equivalent. - Minimum 10 years of clinical experience, with 3+ years in EMS or public health leadership. - Familiarity with Maharashtra's public health infrastructure and NHM protocols. - Strong leadership, communication, and crisis management skills. - Experience with PPP models and large-scale healthcare operations is preferred.
