Job Description

Job Title: Specialist Systems Engineer MSSQL (250009DK)

Experience: 4 7 Years

Location: Bangalore

Key Responsibilities

- Provide on-call database support, including weekends & off-hours.
- Manage production database operations, ensuring BAU stability.
- Plan and execute SQL Server PSU patching & upgrades (legacy and current versions).
- Automate routine DBA tasks such as patching, installation, and maintenance.
- Perform performance tuning & query optimization using SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, and related tools.
- Troubleshoot long-running queries, blocking, deadlocks, and connectivity issues.
- Manage accounts, logins, profiles, security, and auditing parameters.
- Handle index management de-fragmentation, re-indexing, and statistics updates.
- Configure and monitor High Availability (HA) solutions Log Shipping, Mirroring, Replication, Clustering, and Always-On.
- Troubleshoot HA/DR issues including Always-On and Clustering.
- Manage storage replication (e.g., SRDF).
- Ensure timely database backups and recovery, scheduling automated backup jobs.
- Manage and troubleshoot SQL Agent Jobs, Autosys Jobs, and Maintenance Plans.
- Investigate and resolve data corruption issues (page/table level).
- Prepare, update, and maintain SOPs, technical, and operational documentation.
- Lead and support incident/crisis management calls, coordinating with vendors & clients.
- Mentor junior team members, promote knowledge sharing, and support continuous improvement.

Mandatory Skills / Experience

- Strong knowledge of production database operations in MSSQL.
- Hands-on experience in SQL Server patching, upgrades, and automation.
- Expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience in HA/DR solutions (Always-On, Clustering, Log Shipping, Mirroring, Replication).
- Experience in security management login management, auditing, compliance.
- Strong knowledge of ITIL framework and incident/crisis management.
- Effective communication skills (written & verbal) and ability to work in a 24x7 rotational support model.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- Advanced Excel & PowerPoint skills for reporting and presentations.

Good to Have

- Experience managing large-scale SQL environments (500+ instances, multi-terabyte DBs).
- Knowledge of PowerShell scripting for DBA automation.
- Exposure to LEAN methodology for BAU optimization.
- Experience with open-source DB technologies.

Qualifications / Certifications

- Graduate/Post-Graduate in Engineering, Computer Science, or MCA.
- Relevant RDBMS certification (MSSQL, MCSE, Azure Data Engineer, etc.) is an added advantage.
