A Cost Accountant analyzes product costing, process cost, , set product standards, and improve profitability by providing management with data and recommendations for reducing waste and optimizing operations. Key responsibilities include analyzing labor and overhead costs, maintaining inventory and standard cost data, preparing budget and variance reports, conducting audits, and collaborating with other departments on cost-related issues.

Core Responsibilities

- Cost Analysis:
- Collects, classifies, and analyzes cost information for products and services to understand actual costs and variances from standard costs.
- Standard Cost Development:
- Establishes and maintains standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead in the accounting system.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assists in the development and maintenance of annual budgets and forecasts, and prepares detailed cost reports.
- Variance Analysis:
- Analyzes actual costs against budgeted or standard costs to explain differences (variances) and identify areas for improvement.
- Profitability Analysis:
- Evaluates the profitability of products, services, and business processes to inform strategic pricing and decision-making.
- Inventory Management:
- Monitors inventory levels, performs stock counts, and values inventory.
- Process Improvement:
- Recommends changes to operational and financial processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Reporting:
- Prepares financial and management reports to provide insights into the company's cost performance and financial standing.
- Compliance:
- Ensures accuracy of cost accounting data and compliance with accounting standards.

Qualifications

- A Bachelor's degree in B.Com/M.Com / Accounting, Cost Accounting
- 10-15 years' of costing experience in a manufacturing setup.
- Strong verbal or written communication skills
