Job Description As a BIRT Report Writer Specialist at FreeBalance, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and deployment of complex reports and data visualizations using the Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) framework. This role requires a strong understanding of data modeling, SQL, and effective report design principles to translate business requirements into actionable insights. This is an international contract position, and we encourage local candidates to apply only. Main Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, efficient, and accurate reports and dashboards using BIRT (Eclipse-based). - Translate complex business requirements and specifications into technical report designs and data models. - Develop parameterized, drill-down, and interactive reports for various business units. - Write and optimize complex SQL queries (joins, stored procedures, functions) across multiple data sources such as MySQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL. - Collaborate with database administrators and developers to ensure data integrity and accessibility. - Perform unit testing and quality assurance to ensure accuracy, performance, and compliance with requirements. - Debug and troubleshoot issues related to report data, formatting, and performance. - Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including report specifications and change logs. - Work closely with business analysts and stakeholders to gather, refine, and validate reporting requirements. - Provide support and training to end-users on effective report usage. - Other duties as assigned. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Minimum of 3 years of hands-on professional experience in report development using BIRT. - Proven experience writing and optimizing complex SQL and working with relational databases. - Experience with integrating BIRT reports into web applications (e.g., Java/J2EE environments). - Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes is an asset. - Expert-level proficiency in BIRT Report Designer. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Previous experience in the public sector considered an asset. - Ability to travel as required. Preferred Skills - Experience with BIRT scripting (JavaScript) for custom data handling and presentation logic. - Knowledge of other BI/reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or SSRS. - Understanding of data visualization best practices and UI/UX design principles for reports. - Familiarity with application servers (e.g., Tomcat, JBoss) where BIRT is deployed.
