Position Overview A Rebar Detailer - CAD Designer is responsible for preparing detailed drawings, plans, and schedules for the placement, fabrication, and installation of reinforcing steel (rebar) in construction projects. This role involves interpreting structural and architectural drawings, applying industry codes and standards, and using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create precise rebar shop drawings. The Rebar Detailer ensures that the reinforcement details meet design specifications, structural integrity requirements, and fabrication feasibility while coordinating with engineers, contractors, and fabricators. This position is critical in the construction process, particularly in projects involving reinforced concrete such as bridges, high-rise buildings, industrial plants, and infrastructure works. The Rebar Detailer bridges the gap between design intent and practical implementation, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.Key Responsibilities1. Drawing Preparation and Detailing Interpret structural and architectural drawings to create accurate rebar shop drawings. Develop detailed bar bending schedules (BBS) for fabrication and site placement. Ensure rebar drawings comply with project specifications, relevant codes, and standards (e.g., ACI, BS, IS codes). Indicate bar marks, sizes, bends, splices, and lap lengths clearly in the drawings. Use CAD tools to prepare 2D/3D reinforcement drawings. Incorporate changes and revisions as directed by engineers or clients. 2. Coordination and Communication Work closely with structural engineers, architects, and project managers to resolve detailing issues. Coordinate with rebar fabricators to ensure drawings are fabrication-friendly. Liaise with site teams to clarify drawing details and resolve placement issues. Attend project meetings to discuss and update rebar detailing progress. 3. Quality Control and Compliance Review design drawings for discrepancies and potential errors before starting detailing work. Ensure rebar layouts meet structural load requirements and construction tolerances. Maintain compliance with international and regional construction codes. Conduct self-checks and peer reviews to maintain high drawing accuracy. 4. Documentation and Record-Keeping Maintain proper filing of all drawings, revisions, and related documentation. Update as-built drawings after project completion. Keep track of drawing revisions and communicate changes to all stakeholders. 5. Technical Support Provide technical support to the fabrication and construction teams. Troubleshoot issues related to rebar placement and congestion. Suggest modifications to improve constructability and reduce material wastage.Skills and Competencies1. Technical Skills CAD Software Proficiency: AutoCAD (mandatory) Tekla Structures, RebarCAD, or similar software (preferred) Structural Knowledge: Understanding of reinforced concrete structures and construction methods. Familiarity with structural drawings, general arrangement drawings, and sections. Industry Standards: Knowledge of ACI, BS, IS, ASTM, or other relevant rebar detailing standards. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate bar lengths, bending dimensions, lap lengths, and cutting lists. 2. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills Ability to detect and resolve discrepancies in drawings. Strong attention to detail to avoid errors in measurements and placements. Capability to foresee and mitigate site-related issues through proactive detailing. 3. Communication and Coordination Skills Clear verbal and written communication for interacting with engineers and site staff. Ability to explain technical drawings to non-technical team members. Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment. 4. Organizational Skills Ability to manage multiple detailing assignments simultaneously. Strong time management to meet drawing submission deadlines.
