In this role, you will work closely with our engineering team to design, optimise, and scale database systems that power high-growth, user-facing applications. If you enjoy solving complex data problems, improving performance at scale, and building reliable systems, this role is for you. - Design, develop, and maintain MySQL database schemas, queries, views, triggers, and stored procedures. - Optimise database performance, including indexing, query tuning, caching, and load balancing. - Work closely with backend engineers to integrate MySQL effectively within Node.js services. - Contribute to backend development when required using JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and Express.js. - Ensure data integrity, security, backups, and high availability - Support system design discussions and propose scalable database solutions. - Troubleshoot database-related issues and drive root-cause analysis. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve overall application performance. What skills do you need? - 3–6 years of dedicated hands-on experience with MySQL—including query writing, optimisation, schema design, and performance improvements. - Strong understanding of relational database concepts, normalisation, indexing strategies, and execution plans. - Experience working on high-scale, high-growth product-based companies (mandatory). - Ability to design efficient, scalable database structures for B2C applications. - Strong analytical mindset—able to understand why a certain approach is more optimal, not just how to implement it. - Experience working in fast-paced startup environments where performance and speed matter. - Familiarity with database monitoring tools and performance dashboards. - Experience optimising systems for speed, scalability, and reliability. Good to have - Exposure to backend development with Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Express.js. - Experience with ORM tools like Sequelize. - Knowledge of MongoDB, AWS RDS/Aurora, Redis, or caching layers. - Understanding of CI/CD and basic DevOps concepts.
