Operation of Heart-Lung Machine: Set up and operate the cardiopulmonary bypass machine during heart surgeries and transplant procedures. Monitor and control the patient's blood flow, oxygen levels, temperature, and other vital parameters during surgery. Administer blood products, fluids, and medications as prescribed by the surgical team. 2. Pre-Operative Preparation: Review patient history and surgical plan to determine the appropriate perfusion techniques and equipment required. Prepare and calibrate perfusion machines and ensure availability of oxygenators, pumps, filters, and related disposables. Conduct pre-operative system checks and safety verifications. 3. Intraoperative Monitoring and Support: Continuously monitor blood gases, electrolytes, coagulation, hemodynamics, and patient temperature. Adjust flows, pressures, and oxygen delivery in real-time based on patient condition and surgical needs. Maintain accurate documentation of perfusion data, medications administered, and any intraoperative incidents. 4. Post-Operative Duties: Assist in patient weaning from CPB machine and transition back to normal heart and lung function. Clean, sterilize, and maintain perfusion equipment after use. Participate in postoperative debriefings and report on perfusion-related issues. 5. Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS / ECMO): Operate and manage ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) systems for critically ill patients in ICU settings. Provide 24/7 monitoring and support when assigned to patients on long-term life support. 6. Collaboration and Communication: Work in coordination with the surgical team to ensure optimal perfusion management. Communicate clearly during critical situations and respond promptly to surgical team instructions. Participate in training sessions, emergency drills, and case reviews. 7. Equipment Maintenance and Inventory: Ensure all perfusion-related equipment is maintained in proper working order. Track inventory of perfusion supplies and request procurement as needed.
