About the Role: We are seeking a skilled writer with a deep understanding of the development sector to craft compelling narratives that bring our social impact work to life. This role requires someone who can translate complex project data into accessible, impactful stories for diverse audiences—from funding partners to beneficiary communities. You'll be our voice in proposals, reports, and organizational communications, helping us secure resources and showcase the change we create. Key Responsibilities: Proposal Development - Research and develop concept notes and full proposals for funding opportunities from foundations, corporates, government schemes and bilateral agencies - Articulate project design, theory of change, implementation strategies and expected outcomes in compelling, donor-appropriate language - Collaborate with program teams to gather technical inputs and translate them into persuasive narratives - Ensure alignment of proposals with organizational mission and donor priorities - Maintain a repository of successful proposals, case studies and reusable content Project Reporting - Prepare high-quality project-specific reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) for various stakeholders - Transform quantitative data and program metrics into meaningful narratives that demonstrate impact - Work closely with program teams to capture field stories, beneficiary testimonials and qualitative insights - Present complex social sector information in clear, accessible language for non-technical audiences Organizational Communication - Lead content development for annual reports, showcasing organizational achievements and impact - Create compelling case studies, success stories and program briefs - Develop content for donor presentations, newsletters and communication materials - Ensure consistent organizational voice and messaging across all documentation Content Strategy & Management - Maintain a systematic documentation approach for all projects and programs - Stay updated on development sector trends, funding landscapes and best practices in social design - Support knowledge management by documenting lessons learned and program insights - Contribute to building organizational credibility through quality documentation Essential Qualifications: - Master's degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Rural Management, Mass Communication, Journalism, or related field - 3-5 years of proven experience in proposal writing and content development for NGOs/development organizations - Strong understanding of development sector themes: health, education, livelihoods, rural development, WASH, gender, etc. - Portfolio demonstrating successful proposals and impactful content writing - Excellent command over written English with impeccable grammar and style - Proficiency in data presentation, visualization and MS Office suite Must-Have Traits & Skills: - Social sector expertise - genuine understanding of grassroots realities, development challenges and intervention approaches - Storytelling ability - can transform raw data and field observations into compelling, human-centered narratives - Analytical thinking - ability to understand program logic, theories of change and connect activities to outcomes - Research skills - comfortable gathering information from multiple sources, conducting desk research on funding opportunities - Attention to detail - produces error-free, polished documents with consistent formatting and messaging - Adaptability - can shift writing style and tone based on audience—from corporate CSR teams to government officials to foundation program officers - Collaborative approach - works effectively with program teams to extract insights and technical details - Time management - handles multiple deadlines and priorities without compromising quality - Curiosity - asks the right questions to understand program nuances and impact pathways What Makes a Candidate Stand Out: - Knowledge of social design principles and human-centered design approaches - Experience with participatory methods and community engagement - Familiarity with major donors in Indian development space (CSR, foundations, government schemes) - Understanding of monitoring & evaluation frameworks, logical frameworks and results-based management - Experience creating multimedia content or visual storytelling - Prior experience in program implementation in addition to writing Why This Role Matters: Every proposal you write could unlock resources that transform lives.
