Financial Analyst-ControllershipDescription -Applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert Frequently contributes to the organization to external customers clients Exercises significant independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives May provide mentoring and guidance to lower level employees CFR Corporate Financial Reporting is hosted in Worldwide Controllership Organization and is custodian of HP Inc US GAAP Policy Compliance with annual revenue of 60B globally The role involves collaborating with account management teams to guide on sales transactions programs proactively so as to enable revenue recognition as soon as possible while remaining fully compliant with US SEC Securities and Exchange Commission and US GAAP Generally Accepted Accounting Principles requirements The individual is expected to be the subject matter expert providing clear and final revenue recognition guidance for teams to follow The role includes providing leadership to regions GBUs on key issues project managing whitepapers advising on emerging issues and ad hoc policy issues working in conjunction with the business compliance team ensure HP policy and US GAAP has been properly implemented Responsibilities Provides complex and occasionally highly complex financial analysis for a financial function or a business typically exercising a strong understanding of the business to determine the best method for achieving objectives Consults with business leaders to guide and influence strategic decision-making within a broad scope Forecasts financial results within a broad scope Leads business initiatives typically leading analysts across multiple sub-functions within finance Identifies opportunities for process improvement and policy development and engages in the design Represents the business unit during cross-regional or cross- functional planning processes Provides mentoring and guidance to analysts Education and Experience Required First level university degree with a focus in business or economics advanced degree or accounting certification e g Chartered Accountant CA Certified Public Accountant CPA preferred Typically 6 years of experience as a financial analyst Typically experienced in more than one finance function Knowledge and Skills Excellent understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis with advanced knowledge in one area Excellent analytical skills Excellent business application skills e g Microsoft Excel Excellent communication and influencing skills Superior teamwork skills Strong business acumen Good project management skills Critical Competencies to Drive Business Results Applies an understanding of United States US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles GAAP HP finance and administrative processes systems policies and procedures to maximize efficiency and effectiveness Leverages available tools and technology to improve financial systems effectiveness Understands and effectively applies process knowledge to drive operational excellence Demonstrates the ability to leverage company business and financial data and systems to ensure quality of transactions Accurately identifies and resolves sources of financial systems risks Applies alternative future scenarios and their impact on the long-term business objectives Attends to the most appropriate variables inputs and their relationships in a financial model relevant to the business issue Collaboratively and consistently applies regulatory accounting tax and legal best practices in all transactions Specifically responsible for the following areas Technical accounting consultation and revenue guidance on complex customer contracts and business deals Monitoring new accounting pronouncements and assisting in determining the related accounting policy and reporting impacts Maintaining upto date and comprehensive Revenue Recognition accounting policy in compliance with ASC 606 Analyzing material nonstandard contracts and providing accounting dispositions Supporting external auditors in their annual and quarterly revenue recognition audits Maintaining compliance with internal control procedures surrounding revenue recognition accounting and policy including preparation of documentation to support accounting and reporting position Accounting review of emerging business models Provide ongoing support and training to finance teams to enable them to be self-sufficient with their policy and process understanding Influence and communicate to the wider community HP policy updates on a quarterly basis Supporting ad hoc initiatives such as supporting acquired company policy integrations These activities will involve leading and facilitating meetings in a virtual environment across multiple organizations pro-actively identifying and solving problems and giving mature and clear guidance to enable contract negotiation activity and month end close activities This will include providing revenue recognition expertise in the above areas facilitating audit activity consulting on processes and ensuring compliance with HP financial policies and procedures Consults with business leaders to guide and influence strategic decision-making within a broad scope Identifies opportunities for process improvement and policy development and engages in the design Ability to influence multiple organizations within a broad scope
