Key responsibilities - Patient assessment:Conduct medical interviews, perform physical exams, and take detailed medical histories to assess cardiovascular health. - Diagnosis:Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms (ECG), echocardiograms, stress tests, and CT scans to diagnose and analyze conditions like heart disease, arrhythmias, and high blood pressure. - Treatment planning:Develop customized treatment plans, which may include prescribing medication, recommending lifestyle changes (diet, exercise), and performing or recommending procedures. - Patient care and education:Provide ongoing follow-up care, support, and educate patients and their families about their conditions and how to prevent future heart problems. - Collaboration:Work with other healthcare professionals, including primary care doctors, cardiothoracic surgeons, dieticians, and nurses, to provide holistic and comprehensive care. - Professional development:Stay updated on the latest advancements in cardiology, participate in continuing medical education, and may conduct research or participate in clinical trials. - Procedural tasks:Perform minimally invasive procedures, such as cardiac catheterization, or refer patients to surgeons for procedures like bypass surgery.
