Now, we’re writing the next chapter:

Conversational GenAI. We’re transforming Zippy from a passive storyteller into an intelligent, talking companion that understands kids, responds in the voices of their favorite characters, and grows with them — unlocking a whole new way to imagine, play, and learn.

We’re looking for our Head of engineering — a technical founder-mindset leader who can architect, build, and scale Zippy’s entire tech stack: from conversational AI to IoT-cloud infrastructure to parent-facing insights. This is a rare opportunity to own the technology vision, roadmap, and execution for a category-creating product at the intersection of AI, hardware, and storytelling.

What You’ll Lead

- Conversational AI Platform:
- Architect and scale Zippy’s character-based conversational engine — LLM orchestration, speech models (TTS/STT), prompt chaining, memory, emotion, and safety guardrails.
- Personalized Content Platform:
- Power a dynamic content tech stack — AI-generated stories, age- and language-adaptive narratives, and real-time voice cloning to let families “star” in their own stories.
- IoT + Cloud Infrastructure:
- Design real-time, secure data flows between device, cloud, and app. Build a scalable backend that powers magical moments while respecting privacy.
- Parent Experience Layer:
- Deliver actionable insights, controls, and feedback loops via Zippy’s mobile app — enabling parents to shape learning journeys.
- GenAI Ops & Tooling:
- Build internal tools to fine-tune models, manage prompts, and ensure safe, bias-free, child-appropriate outputs at scale.
- Tech Vision & Culture:
- Define and own Zippy’s technology strategy, balancing rapid experimentation with robust, privacy-first architecture. Grow a high-performing team and foster an engineering culture of speed, quality, and impact.

What You Bring

- Proven Technical Leadership:
- 7+ years of backend experience with at 1+ years leading teams or shipping GenAI/NLP products at scale.
- Deep Builder DNA:
- Hands-on experience with Python/Node.js/Go; can architect systems and also roll up sleeves to code critical paths.
- AI/ML Expertise:
- LLMs, LangChain/RAG, vector DBs, embeddings, prompt engineering — you’ve shipped real-world AI products.
- Voice AI & Realtime Systems:
- Familiarity with ASR/TTS, speech synthesis, streaming APIs, and latency-sensitive experiences.
- Startup Mindset:
- Thrive in ambiguity, move fast with small teams, and take complete ownership.

- Experience with voice agents or multimodal AI
