Job Description Social Media Sub Editor We are looking for a Social Media Sub Editor with 13 years of newsroom experience to join the Social Media team. The role is work-from-office and is open in Chennai, Bengaluru or New Delhi office of The Hindu. The ideal candidate will be passionate about digital storytelling, have a sharp news sense, and be able to create engaging content tailored for social platforms. Responsibilities: - Create and publish compelling content across major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp), aligned with the brand's voice and messaging. - Write error-free headlines and captions; edit content for accuracy, clarity, and impact. - Develop a mix of original, curated, and user-generated content using text, images, and short videos. - Plan, schedule, and optimise posts to maximise reach and engagement. - Track news and trends; coordinate with reporters for breaking news updates and identify opportunities to leverage trending events. - Moderate comments and online conversations in line with brand and community guidelines. - Analyse performance metrics (reach, engagement, conversions) to refine and inform content strategy. Required Skills & Competencies - Strong command over English and excellent editing/proofreading skills. - Hands-on experience with social media publishing tools. - Knowledge of digital content trends, analytics, and platform best practices. - Ability to write crisp, engaging headlines and captions. - Basic understanding of multimedia formats (images, reels, short videos). - Good news judgment and awareness of current affairs. - Ability to work under tight deadlines and fast-paced environments. Education & Experience - Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or related field. - 13 years of experience in digital content editing or social media roles. - Experience in media, publishing, or newsroom environments is an advantage.
