DFX Supervisor

The DFX Supervisor oversees both CG and compositing output across a show or major sequence. The role ensures the creative and technical quality of final shots by guiding teams across departments, supporting lookdev, resolving workflow issues, and ensuring shots are delivered consistently and on time.

Requirements

Duties:

- Cross-Discipline Supervision: Oversee both 3D and comp work to ensure integrated shot delivery.
- Lookdev Direction: Support or lead visual development of FX, lighting, and comp.
- Tech Checks: Conduct technical reviews of renders, AOVs, naming, colour, and pipeline dependencies.
- Shot Review: Provide feedback across departments and guide shots through to final.
- Pipeline Support: Liaise with pipeline and dev to flag tool needs or workflow blockers.
- Artist Guidance: Support leads and seniors with mentoring, task planning, and quality control. Act as a key creative and technical lead across departments and with production.
- Scheduling & Production Support: Work with production to manage shot scope, reviews, scheduling and delivery.
- Delivery Oversight: Lead the delivery of high-quality, technically sound, and visually aligned shots. Sign off on shots as final from a technical and creative standpoint.

Skills, attributes and experience:

- Advanced knowledge of Houdini (FX, lighting), Nuke, and render pipelines.
- Strong understanding of photorealism, integration, and colour workflows.
- Effective communicator between departments, clients, and production.
- Thorough approach to tech checks, naming standards, and handoffs.
- Experience supervising both 3D and 2D on high-end shows.
- Familiarity with ShotGrid or show tracking systems.
- Experience defining workflows, testing tools, or leading show-level reviews.
- 10+ years in VFX or a related field.
- Excellent communicator, sharing information clearly and actively listening.
- Strong time management, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and escalate delays in a timely manner.
- Adaptable to change with the ability to stay focused and maintain a positive attitude.
