About Team & Product

We are developing Confluent's Cost Estimator platform, a strategic internal web application that empowers users with intuitive and reliable features for workload sizing, forecasting, scenario modeling, and operational efficiency. By enabling data-driven decision-making prior to resource deployment, it helps stakeholders plan proactively, optimize usage, and manage Confluent's expenditures with confidence.

As a Senior Manager - Application Engineering, you will be responsible for leading the team in the design, development, and maintenance of internal facing applications, configuring tools, managing applications using CI/CD principles, and adopting governance best practices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of technical skills, people management experience, and business acumen.

You'll own projects end-to-end, collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, and deliver intuitive, reliable, and secure applications that simplify workflows and drive productivity.

What You Will Do

- Recruit, Lead and Manage a team of Application Engineers and Leads.
- Mentor and coach team members to enhance their skills and career development.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to the team on both front-end and back-end technologies.
- Ensure best practices for software development, including security standards, coding standards, code reviews, and testing.
- Drive architectural decisions and contribute to the design and development of scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based solutions.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of server-side logic, APIs, & databases and front-end frameworks and technologies (e.g., JavaScript, React, Angular, Golang, Postgres) to build responsive web applications
- Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to ensure smooth deployment and monitoring of applications.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of projects across the front-end and back-end teams.
- Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of features and enhancements.
- Manage Support requests and issues in a timely manner
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide progress updates.
- Foster collaboration between cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of features.
- Represent the Application Engineering team in cross-functional meetings and contribute to strategic planning.

What You Will Bring

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 15+ years of experience in Application Engineering, with a focus on building scalable, resilient and responsive cloud based web applications
- 5+ years of experience in leading and managing Software Engineering teams
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience in modern front-end and back-end technologies.
- Preferred 2+ years of experience in Apache Kafka and/or Confluent, event-driven architectures, and stream processing applications
- Experience in front-end frameworks (e.g., JavaScript, React, Angular) and back-end technologies (e.g., Java, Python, GoLang,Node.js).
- Experience with database technologies, both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline
- Ability to architect complex engineering systems from end to end.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
