Bridge Engineer

Job Description Responsibilities I am an experienced Bridge Engineer with 17 years of experience in the construction, supervision, and quality control of major bridge projects, including elevated corridors, interchanges, ROBs, and special-span structures. My work is fully focused on bridge engineering, covering both substructure and superstructure activities, structural inspections, testing, and technical coordination. Currently, I am working on the Chennai Elevated Double-Decker Bridge Project, where I am responsible for supervising critical bridge components, reviewing construction drawings, and coordinating with design and Authority Engineer teams. I examine all structural designs and drawings submitted for approval, ensuring they match the actual site conditions and comply with IRC, MoRTH, and IS code requirements. I have strong expertise in conducting essential geotechnical and structural tests such as: - Pile Load Tests (PLT) including Initial and Routine Load Tests to determine the safe load-carrying capacity, settlement characteristics, and overall performance of piles. - Plate Load Tests (PLT) - Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) to determine SBC of soil - Bridge Load Tests to evaluate superstructure behaviour, load carrying capacity, and deflection limits These tests ensure that foundations and superstructures meet the required safety and performance standards. I have supervised rehabilitation, strengthening, and repair works of existing bridges, preparing rectification measures and ensuring long-term performance of structural elements. Major achievements include supervising the execution of complex structural works such as: - A 43-metre I-Girder span with 42-degree skew, forming part of a challenging interchange structure. - A 45-metre bowstring girder in a Railway Over Bridge (ROB), including assembly, shifting, and erection using a winch-based arrangement. - Successful shifting and erection of 316 I-girders with precise alignment, level, camber, and bearing installation. My responsibilities also include reviewing and validating Change of Scope (COS) drawings, verifying site conditions, confirming structural quantities (concrete, reinforcement), and coordinating with contractors and design consultants for approval and clarification. I ensure strict compliance with environmental monitoring, safety audits, quality requirements, and statutory guidelines throughout the project. I also monitor construction progress as per the Contract Programme Schedule, identify critical delays, coordinate with multiple teams, and ensure timely achievement of project milestones. Chennai Elevated Double-Decker Highway Project (Current) Senior Bridge Engineer | March 2024 Present - Currently working on one of the most complex elevated projects in Chennai. - Responsible for Double-Decker bridge execution, drawing review, girder erection, skew spans, bowstring girder works, and coordination with design/Authority Engineer. - Involved in Pile Load Tests, Plate Load Tests, SPT, structural inspections, COS verification, safety audits, and environmental compliance.
