Your contribution will help us in continuous development and improvement of our software suite for real time corrosion visibility in petrochemical assets.Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CFD Engineer (Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer) to join our multidisciplinary engineering and digital technology team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and validating high-fidelity CFD models to simulate complex physical and chemical phenomena occurring within petrochemical assets, such as reactors, pipelines, separators, flare systems, and heat exchangers. These simulations will be critical in enabling downstream machine learning (ML) workflows by generating synthetic data, assisting in feature engineering, and validating digital twin models. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical proficiency in CFD techniques, be proficient in tools such as OpenFOAM, MATLAB, Taichi-Lang, ANSYS Fluent, or equivalent, and have strong domain knowledge in chemical or process engineering. Additionally, you will work closely with machine learning engineers, process engineers, and data scientists to co-develop hybrid models that combine physics-based simulations with data-driven analytics.Key Responsibilities1. CFD Model Development and Simulation Develop, set up, and run CFD simulations using OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, Taichi-Lang, or other equivalent platforms to model thermo-fluid and chemical processes. Simulate multi-phase flows, combustion, heat transfer, turbulence, chemical reactions, and other relevant physical phenomena typical in petrochemical systems. Perform mesh generation, boundary condition setup, solver configuration, and post-processing of results with a focus on physical accuracy and computational efficiency. Translate complex geometries from CAD and plant design files into mesh-compatible formats using tools like ANSYS Meshing, snappyHexMesh, or Salome. 2. Domain-Specific Modeling Develop and calibrate models of real-world petrochemical equipment including but not limited to: Catalytic or thermal reactors (e.g., FCC, reformers) Distillation columns and separators Heat exchangers and boilers Compressors and turbo machinery Flare stacks and gas pipelines Integrate chemical kinetics and reaction mechanisms into the flow solvers for accurate modeling of combustion, cracking, polymerization, or oxidation reactions. 3. Data Generation and Machine Learning Integration Generate simulation data for various operating scenarios and failure conditions to support supervised and unsupervised ML model development. Collaborate with machine learning engineers to define the simulation requirements for synthetic data creation, parameter sweeps, and data augmentation. Aid in the development of digital twins and physics-informed ML models by supplying validated simulation data for training, testing, and benchmarking. Provide physics-based constraints and insights to ML teams to guide algorithm design and improve model interpretability. 4. Validation and Verification Compare simulation results with experimental, field, or historical data to ensure model validity. Perform sensitivity analysis, grid independence studies, and uncertainty quantification to ensure robustness of simulations. Document all modeling assumptions, approaches, and findings in technical reports for peer and regulatory review. 5. Automation and Optimization Develop automated pipelines for parameter studies, geometry variations, and case setups using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and APIs (e.g., pyFoam). Explore surrogate modeling or reduced-order modeling (ROM) techniques to accelerate simulations for real-time or near-real-time applications. 6. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with teams across process engineering, operations, ML engineering, and IT infrastructure. Translate operational challenges into simulation problems and vice versa. Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders through clear visualizations, dashboards, and written reports. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field. Strong proficiency in at least one major CFD tool: OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, Star-CCM+, or similar. Experience with MATLAB, Python, or Taichi-Lang for model setup, scripting, or post-processing. Solid understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and chemical kinetics. Familiarity with meshing strategies and turbulence modeling (RANS, LES, DNS). Strong mathematical and numerical analysis skills.
