The Role

As the Plant Head, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of plant operations in the production of pharmaceutical APIs and Intermediates. This role requires a highly proactive, safety-conscious, and results-driven leader who can ensure that the plant operates smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory standards across global markets. The Plant Head will lead a diverse team, liaise with regulatory authorities, drive continuous improvements, and be the face of the plant in the local community. The position calls for someone with a strong technical and managerial background, a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, and an ability to handle high-pressure situations with calm and logic.

Key Responsibilities

1. Safety & Compliance

- Foster a safety-first culture throughout the plant, ensuring compliance with all internal and external safety protocols.
- Facilitate adherence to global and local regulatory guidelines (e.g., USFDA, EMEA, MHRA, GPCB, Fire Department, Electrical Inspectors, etc.).
- Maintain readiness for all regulatory inspections, ensuring robust documentation for compliance with statutory norms (Pollution Control Board, Factory Act, etc.).
- Drive zero-accident initiatives and lead regular safety drills and awareness programs for all levels of staff.

2. Plant Operations

- Maintain a 360-degree visibility of the site, performing daily rounds to assess operations and ensure safety standards are adhered to.
- Optimize utilization of manpower, machinery, and materials, focusing on minimizing waste and maximizing output.

3. Operational Excellence & Cost Management

- Champion initiatives to drive process improvement, such as lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and industry 4.0 and maintain focus on cost control, energy conservation, and reduction of wastage while maintaining quality and timely delivery.
- Ensure the plant&aposs machinery, utilities, and infrastructure are well-maintained through preventive maintenance and timely upgrades.

4. Disaster Management & Emergency Response

- Lead and maintain an effective disaster management plan, ensuring the plant is prepared for any potential crisis, with contingency plans for operational and safety emergencies.

5. Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement

- Establish and maintain strong relationships with local government authorities (FDA, GPCB, Fire Department, etc.), and stay connected with changes in leadership or regulations.
- Represent the plant during audits, inspections, and regulatory assessments, ensuring full compliance with all global standards.
- Liaise with local industries and pharmaceutical networks, actively participating in local manufacturing associations and maintaining a strong industry reputation.

6. Cross-functional Team Leadership

- Lead cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, EHS) to ensure operational excellence, while aligning goals with the business vision and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Ensuring training across disciplines (engineering, regulatory, quality, HR, etc.).

7. Community Engagement & Social Responsibility

- Use emotional intelligence to represent the company in the local community, offering support and contributing to local improvements through initiatives like educational assistance, tree plantation, medical aid, and more.

8. Future Projects & Expansion

- Drive future project & capacity expansion, technology upgrades, and scaling operations, while identifying and mitigating risks to ensure smooth operations.

Skills and Knowledge

- Pharmaceutical Expertise: Deep knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing, including regulatory standards (USFDA, EMEA, GMP).
- Safety Leadership: Strong commitment to safety and compliance, with a focus on zero-accident initiatives.
- Operational Excellence: Experience with process optimization, lean manufacturing, and cost management.
- People Leadership: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and build high-performing cross-functional teams.
- Community Engagement: Strong emotional intelligence to foster relationships and drive social initiatives in the local community.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage all stakeholders, from staff to government officials with awareness of the local dialect.
