JOB SUMMARY
The Electrolyte Scientist will drive cutting-edge research and development focused on advanced materials and research and development on electrolyte formulations for Li-ion batteries, focusing on next-generation, high-performance technologies. This role is pivotal in advancing materials that enhance battery safety, efficiency, and energy density, and involves collaborating closely with R&D teams to bring state-of-the-art and next-gen cell designs to life.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Propose and conduct in depth experiments to formulate the electrolytes to improve the electrolyte performance for lithium-ion battery applications.
• Hands on experience to generate new electrolyte formulation, screen and benchmark the electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries as per cell design.
• Characterize the composition and analyse the electrolyte compositions for electrolytes.
• Design and conduct electrical/electrochemical performance measurements to evaluate the performance at both component and cell level.
• Support R&D initiatives to create prototypes for next-gen cells, integrating advanced materials and innovative designs into lab-scale trials.
• Lead and Mentor junior team members, technicians, and interns, provide technical consultation to cross-functional partners.
• Collaborate with other team members globally to product development as per cell deliverables.
• Analyse test results, interpret data trends, and contribute to electrolyte optimization and improved cell architecture for enhanced performance.
• Stay informed on emerging electrochemical research, industry advancements, and competitive benchmarks to drive ongoing material innovation.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
• Deep understanding of lithium-ion batteries and electrolyte formulation chemistry, specially design of formulations with respective performance-oriented factors like cycle performance, high temperatures, ageing studies, and analyse the data.
• Hands-on wet chemistry and synthesis, characterization and testing of commercial lithium-ion battery materials.
• Hands on experience in materials characterization (XRD, PSA, FTIR, ICP-OES, GCMS, ICMS, RAMAN, KF, XPS, etc) and cell testing methodologies, data analysis and interpretation.
• High attention to detail, accuracy and precision in experimental design and analysis of results.
Desired:
• Must have dexterity to handle delicate battery components and laboratory equipment.
• Must be able to physically operate scientific equipment and instruments
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and present technical findings clearly.
Role Specific Qualifications/Certifications
• PhD in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related scientific discipline with minimum 2-4 years of industrial experience in lithium-ion batteries.
• Strong technical knowledge and experience in battery materials for lithium-ion batteries.
• Deep knowledge and strong hands-on experience in electrode material synthesis, from wet chemistry to gas-solid/solid-solid high-temperature process.
