Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Cassandra / DataStax DBA with strong expertise in managing large-scale, mission-critical NoSQL database environments. This role involves administration, performance tuning, automation, and production support of Apache Cassandra and DataStax Enterprise (DSE) clusters across on-prem and cloud platforms. The candidate will work closely with application, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability of distributed database systems. Project Context This role supports enterprise-grade distributed data platforms by: • Managing and optimizing Cassandra/DSE clusters in production • Ensuring high availability and disaster recovery • Automating database operations and infrastructure provisioning • Supporting 24x7 production environments through on-call rotations
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Operations • Install, configure, and manage Apache Cassandra and DataStax Enterprise clusters • Monitor cluster health, performance, and capacity • Perform upgrades, patching, backups, and restores • Handle node replacements, scaling, and disaster recovery activities Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting • Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks • Tune JVM, GC, and Cassandra configuration parameters • Troubleshoot production incidents and provide root-cause analysis • Work in on-call rotations to support critical environments Automation & DevOps • Automate operational tasks using shell scripting • Use Ansible, Terraform, or similar IaC tools for provisioning • Improve monitoring, alerting, and operational efficiency Cloud & Integrations • Manage Cassandra/DSE deployments on AWS, Azure, or GCP • Support integrations with DSE Search (Solr) and DSE Analytics (Spark) • Collaborate with application teams on schema design and data modeling Technical Skills & Technologies Core Database • Expert-level knowledge of Apache Cassandra architecture • Strong hands-on experience with DataStax Enterprise (DSE) Tooling • DataStax OpsCenter • DevCenter • nodetool Platform & OS • Strong experience with Linux/Unix systems • Shell scripting (Bash) Automation & Cloud • Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools • Experience with AWS / Azure / GCP Experience Required • 8–10 years of total IT experience • 5+ years as a Cassandra / DataStax DBA in large-scale production environments • Experience supporting high-availability, distributed systems Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field • DataStax Certified Administrator or Developer (strong advantage) Soft Skills • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills • Ability to work in fast-paced, production-critical environments • Comfortable with on-call and rotational shift support
