The Staff Reliability Engineer is responsible working with product development and sustaining teams to ensure Cepheid is developing highly reliable products through the application of Danaher reliability tools (e.g. Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis, structured problem solving, reliability modeling, reliability predictions, etc.). This technical role will be responsible for supporting assessment and improvement in final product reliability. The ideal candidate will be working closely with the mechanical and electrical design, software, firmware, and manufacturing engineers to characterize and demonstrate design improvements through testing and simulations. Primary function of this position is to make/review/improve/execute current plans for systems/subsystems reliability testing. This includes design, procurement and automate the systems/subsystems throughout the reliability tests. Other important task is to support current efforts by the design team for bench testing critical components and subsystems. This position is part of the Reliability team and will be located Bengaluru, IDC, India. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: - Define and implement functional and reliability requirements of systems/subsystems to plan reliability/life tests that help evaluate the short/ long term compliance with the specifications. Provide reliability predictions, along with test plans and methods to assess and drive product reliability to the desired levels. Develop & present methods of correlating reliability test results with actual field performance - Interact and work closely with ME, EE, SW, FW, IT, PM engineering groups and suppliers ensuring the desired reliability is achieved using Design for Reliability (DfR) approaches including FMEA and DoE approaches - Works with R&D, Manufacturing, Customer Care, and Quality groups to help resolve customer complaints/manufacturing issues during early commercial stages by performing reliability prediction of failure mechanisms on products under development and products in the field - Own the product and engineering design reviews, assessing the reliability budget of products/designs and inspire changes which improve product reliability - Able to articulate needed design changes to improve product reliability and influence and align with cross functional stakeholders on those recommendations The essential requirements of the job include: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering with 5+ years of experience, or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering with 3+ years of experience in reliability or life testing of medical capital or consumer equipment and instruments - Demonstrated proficiency in designing, validating, executing, and documenting reliability test methods and protocols including HALT, HASS, and Accelerated Life Testing - Proficient in statistical analysis and modeling using JMP, Minitab, DOE++, Weibull++, ALTA, BlockSim, and programming in Python or Matlab for data acquisition and measurement of electrical and physical parameters such as temperature, voltage, current, torque, force, pressure, and sound - Applied experience in system integration and troubleshooting of complex engineering systems with demonstrated ability to resolve interoperability issues across system interfaces - Practical knowledge of reliability statistical methods and active participation in product development cycles involving cross-functional design and manufacturing teams It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in: - Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes (including soft and hard tooling, machining, injection molding, wire EDM, electro polishing, brazing, heat treatment, etc.). - Excellent understanding of tolerance stack up, molding processes, thermal management and simulation, finite element analysis, computational Fluid Dynamics, etc. Join our winning team today.
