Key Responsibilities of a Steward Dishwashing and Utensil Management Handling the cleaning of dirty dishes pots pans and other utensils either by hand or using dishwashing equipment Assisting Customers Providing basic customer service such as welcoming guests seating them and addressing their needs Managing Inventory and Supplies Ensuring that the venue is adequately stocked with necessary supplies including food beverages and cleaning materials Supporting Other Staff Assisting waiters bartenders and other staff members with various tasks as needed Upholding Safety and Hygiene Standards Following established protocols to ensure a safe and healthy environment for both staff and customers Problem Solving and Communication Addressing customer complaints or concerns and communicating effectively with other team members Specific to Events Stewards at events may also manage crowds direct traffic provide security and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for attendees Maintaining Cleanliness and Hygiene This includes cleaning and sanitizing all areas such as dining areas kitchens and service areas Essential Skills for a Steward Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills Effective communication is crucial for interacting with customers and colleagues Physical Stamina and Endurance The job often requires standing for long periods and performing physically demanding tasks Attention to Detail Stewards need to be detail-oriented to maintain cleanliness and ensure that all tasks are completed to a high standard Problem-Solving Skills The ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and efficiently is important Organizational Skills Stewards need to manage multiple tasks and maintain a well-organized work environment Teamwork Working effectively as part of a team is essential for many steward roles Required Skills food safety hospitality Resturant Waiter Steward Bartender
